Tonight on primetime TV a retired professor, Craig Ewert, dies in an 'assisted suicide'. Mr Ewert aged 59 is filmed turning off his ventilator and taking a lethal dose of drugs washed down with apple juice. His wife is by his side.

Should this be allowed to be shown on TV? Is'nt this THE most private moment. Are we that desperate for entertainment that we have to put death on TV?

Yes I do think that this should be brought to our attention, I had my Dearest friend (39) who died with this Degenerative disease, Motor Neurone, and I watched and helped her for the worst 2 years of our lives, she was a clever woman and knew exactly what was happening and how it would end, and she signed a living will so that they didn't prolong it any longer and withheld any more treatment, people should have the Choice, its our life and our bodies, who has the right to say you must suffer.

I'm in favour of Euthanasia, but not on TV.

I am also in favour of death with dignity, especially in cases like this but I don't feel the need to watch it on TV, so guess what, I won't. We all have a choice & I'm going to exercise mine, just taking it out for a walk now.

I wonder how many people will watch it, and then complain.

I am all in favour of "assisted suicide" if that is that persons choice. As to whether it should be on T.V. is a somewhat moot point and I certainly wouldn't watch it. However the person involved clearly feels he has a message to put across by doing this and maybe if it comforts someone who is contemplating the same course of action it is not up to me to critisize.

I should just like to add that I lost my Mother 2 days ago to Brain Cancer ( as well as elsewhere) but recently due to the Cancer it was like she was on another planet. Had she have asked me to help her end it I would have done!!!!!!!!!!.As it is she died peacefully in her sleep.

I WATCHED MY MUM DIE OF MND A FEW YEARS AGO. AS CRUELLA SAYS, IF AN ANIMAL WERE DESPERATELY ILL, WITH NO HOPE, IT WOULD BE PUT TO SLEEP. ANY OTHER COURSE OF ACTION WOULD BE DEEMED CRUEL.

GIBSON, SINCERE CONDOLENCES ON THE LOSS OF YOUR MUM. SADLY, WE LOST A FRIEND TO BRAIN CANCER, AMONG OTHER CANCERS, LAST WEEK. SHE WAS ONLY IN HER 40'S AND LEAVES 4 CHILDREN, 2 OF WHICH ARE VERY YOUNG. THE LAST MONTHS OF HER LIFE WERE TRULY AWFUL, BUT SHE MANAGED TO HANG ON TO SEE HER ELDEST DAUGHTER MARRIED. VERY TRAGIC.

Thank you for your comments but the last time I saw her (July) she was at least compos mentis ,just went downhill very very quickly. She was 82 so at least a longish life unlike the lady in her 40's.

The point I was making though was like Cruella say's we put animals out of their misery and suffering, why can't we do the same for people

Well it needs to be made victim proof if we are to avoid another Dr Death...

I support choice, I don't support single point of failure assisted suicides. So I think at least three medically trained counsellors should be involved to make sure there is no duress from a relative... Maybe it should also be a rule that no substantial beneficiary should be allowed to assist...

Coachie - I'm a strong believier in dying with dignity, and take on board your points. You would hope so, wouldn't you, but it seems to me that these days, you probably can't be too careful.

hi the Ws i am so very sorry to hear that i lost my baby sister the same way on my birthday last year, its all so sad but i have to agree with grouch and the others if our time comes and we are able to make a choice then that is our and ours alone. you know i worked for a national charity and helped with the introduction of the donor card which gave the donor the choice and took the pain away from the family in the time of need, maybe something like that could be in place, i know there is a living will but not sure how it works. at least your friend saw her daughter married guess thats what she hung on for. you take good care of yourselves and each other xxxx

No1 Doyen I Watched it on U tube this morning, I think it was all very dignified, and was not traumatic to watch, he went peaceful,

I watched my dearest friend die with MND and I can assure you he died in peace not like my friend, who ended up choking,

As I said before its our bodies and we should not have some doctors telling us we will make you as comfortable as can be, we should be able to decide when enough is enough

smithy - my Aunt died of MND a couple of years ago. It's a terrible disease to have. I think I would be prepared to take my own life if I had that. Very sad.

I'm sorry to hear about your Aunt, its so sad to watch people you care about go through this, the goodies who vote against Euthanasia obviously have not been through it,

I think we should all be very proud of the dignified Mr. Craig Ewert, may he now be at peace.

I want to die like my dear old dad, peacefully in his sleep,

and not like the passengers in the bus he was driving at the time,

screaming in fear and terror just before they hit that petrol tanker!
