To all of you who may know me, I had three doggies and one girl called Kizim (meaning my daughter my girl) who gave me two beautiful little pups also her girls Aisha & Indi. My dad took them all out on Tuesday 10th Jan 2012 7.30 AM to Karsiyaka mountains. He returned around 9.30....at 10AM he shouted for me...by the time i got downstair she was foaming at the mouth. The most lethal of them all....Poison!!! im unsure of the name but the vet FUAT (Thank you Fuat I know you tried your best) said it had attacked her liver. My Girl tried to fight it, she was a figther....but it was to much for her. KIZIM lost 11AM Tuesday 12th Jan 2012 a part of me has been taken away as im sure many of you have suffered. PLEASE BE SOOOOO CAREFUL the light of life has gone from my life, but i have two souls I still love dearly, I would not wish watching your dog suffer what Kizim suffered. RIP Girl love always Ozlem xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

How many more of these innocent , long and lovable animals willbe killed before some animal rights and justice are taking place. The law here is plain that anyone who harms an animal is fined or imprisoned, but somehow NO ONE ever knows who put the poison down. SOMEONE must know. A dog which tried to adopt me was dead on my doorstep - obviously came for help but no one did. Cruel is an understatement. This dog was seemingly poisoned and some say by the council, but why not the others. Is it random? Certainly in the mountains it is, but why, why, why. But as has been said by many it is NOT the poison availability that is at fault, but the humans responsible for the animals and for our island. So sorry Ozlem, my heart goes out to you. I am sure you shed more tears than I, but the tears do nothing to put the situation right.

Sorry to hear of you sad news. All pet owners will feel for you I am sure. I have noticed some owners keep a muzzle on their dogs when they take them out. Maybe this would help others from suffering the same grief?

Thank u all. Thanks Jen xxxx Bertie: Going towards Karsiyaka from Lapta...there is a sign for Guzelyali Evleri on your left before you come to the 'Nightclubs' that left all the way up there are no houses nothing up there....you pass a few houses to go up but thats it. she is buried there also as my dad said there would be no chance of any building. Although do be careful by the sea....my dad was down there first not sure where but I have heard of incidents by the sea because of the strays. we try keep them safe but also want them to feel free by letting them run around because thats what they love & this can be the result.....a very painful one at that Take care all

Thank you for taking time to tell me where. I really feel so sorry for you and yes I do understand about letting them have the freedom to run around. Muzzles dont always help as they can still lick things they shouldnt and unfortunately it is a choice between taking a risk letting them have some freedom and keeping them always on a lead. Neutering is surely a much better way of controling the canine population rather than letting them breed freely then poisoning them to control the number roaming

I'm surprised that there was poison up there as it's popular with hunters. We used to walk our dogs up there every other morning but haven't been up there so often recently. We did drive up there last Wednesday morning and walked one of the trails. None of our four suffered any ill effects, maybe we were just lucky. Very sorry you had to go through that experience, and obviously sorry for the loss of your dog. I have lost one dog to poisoning, watched another die on our doorstep and had one of our present dogs survive three poisoning episodes. I still think the best thing to do is to carry plenty of salt, a plastic mug and lots of water. Get heavily salted water down the dog's throat to make it sick as soon as you spot any symptoms, shaking being the main one, then straight to the vet. I have often encountered the goatherd up there and he doesn't like dogs as there are lots of his goats around. Not accusing him but.....................

Thanks to the kind person who complained to the Belediye about the strays in Malatya. They came up yesterday and poisoned at least one dog which I fed and watered.

Msg 23, I'm sorry but who are you complaining about ? The Belediye officials who poisoned the dogs or those who complained about the dogs. I have been bitten by a stray dog during my life and the attack frightened me. I love dogs , one is asleep on the floor as I write but, you don't know the circumstances of this episode and do not know if this dog was a danger to others. There are too many strays in NC and sometimes they need to be culled. This should be done humanely but ordinary people don't control this.

I do know the circumstances of this episode and do know that this dogs was not a danger to others. It was in fact very friendly and wouldn't hurt a fly. I live in Malatya and I put food and water out for these dogs. That doesn't make them my dogs, but if I didn't feed them they'd probably starve.

Dear Ozlem I am so sorry to hear about the death of Kizim, it is so sad. I have been following poisoning stories for 6 years or so and feel so helpless about getting anything done to stop it. I do a lot of walking in the mountains and last year behind Bellapais I photographed the dead dogs and fox up there, I also collected 17 packets of poison that had been laid down in animal fat wrapped in tin foil. After this experience I set up a facebook page called 'Pets Against Poison', where I asked people to report where and when a poisoning has happened, just so that people were aware. As a memorial I ask people to post pictures of their dogs or cats that had been lost to poisoning. If you are on facebook and would like to put up a picture of Kizim, we would love to see her and remember her. Anyone else who reads this and would like to join the group please search for Pets Against Poison, the profile picture is of the cartoon characters Rhurbarb and Custard.

trouble is some rodent poisons will kill your animals you cant ban every poison think it has to be regulated with signature and address of purchaser what its going to be used for. putting poison down in public places and streets should be illegal no dogs will die if you buy an inexpensive muzzle

FOR ALL YOUR INFORMATION!! Me & My fiance confronted the 'shepherd' earlier today.....well more my calm fiance as you can imagine my blood was almost at boiling point! With his calm questions....asking who the goats belong to and explaining our dog was poisoned in this area....he explain I havent throw any down myself but someone else may have (Lie! as he waited for my fiance to explain the reason we were asking first & he didnt convince me or my fiance at all with confident answer and reassurance) BUT!! the cheek! I have been looking for some as I want to throw some down!! I understand this is their living BUT my Kizim has was poisoned & DIE because some ******** cant be arsed to put up a sign or fence off certain areas for your animals to roam around and our innocent animals mainly dogs around there end up suffering!!

| Also the fact that he made points of saying all the people that come from overseas and we dont understand that they make their living from this!! so to keep our dogs away the best thing they can do is put down poison and this scares us away!! SO ALL PLEASE BEWARE....WARN ANYONE YOU HEAR OF WHO MAY WALK THEIR DOGS UP THERE AS THESE PEOPLE REALLY DONT CARE....YES MUZZLES ARE A GREAT IDEA AND I WILL LEARN FROM THIS WE ALL SHOULD AND MAYBE LIKE YOU SAY WE CAN SAVE OUR LOVED ONES LIVES. | Avci81, my heart bleeds for you, this is a huge problem here which needs to be sorted. My blind cat was poisoned a couple of months ago and I still do not know who did it, ut I distrust my neighbours deeply since this happened. Also, I found a dog by the side of the road in Ozankoy recently in a bad way, and took it to a vets, this poor girl had also been poisoned and the vet was unable to save it. Until this government comes into the 21st century and realises that this poisoning is a barbaric act by individuals not fit to call themselves human beings, then it will continue. I only hope the people who do this, suffer eventually the same as the poor animals they have made suffer. |

Ozlem ...so he admitted to it? The Shepheard is probably a guy bought in by Cypriot , ask him who owns the herd, Most Shepheards here are employed , not the owners of the herd...maybe he would not be so happy about this situation....

they just do not care who they hurt. I remember when the strays Jack and Jill turned up, a shephard came to the restaurant saying your dogs, I said NO look at the ears, read earring. Neither he or the policw who he called understood dogs with earings. You owe me 1200 TL for each sheep, I said you told me one now its for each, then chickens were in the mix. I feed these dogs daily they had no need to go for food. I told him to take me to court but he became bitter, in the end he shot Jill and I took Jack home, but I was scared he would poision as he kept telling me any of your dogs come by my farm I poision. They are your dogs you feed, I said I feed many dogs why do you say they killed your animals, his reply you british try to ruin us and i kill . I beleive in KARMA and it will get them and all who hurt people. I pray you come to terms with it soon love, nothing will bring the baby back just the memories you have x Take care

Unfortunately muzzles are not always the answer as a dog can lick through the gaps. I think it is possible to buy muzzles on the net which just have a lot of small holes to breath through, but I haven't had time to check yet. As to buying the poison, just go down to your local Belly, say you have rats around the street bins near your house and you can get it. Not difficult. Unless they have tightened things up this year, which I doubt.

Well he said it wasnt him this time!! what does that tell you....plus the questions and his answer didnt add up, there is no other shepherd up there and by his attitude i have no doubt that he was the one. I will look into the muzzles, my aunty is in the UK and if she can maybe have a look an bring one back...or i suppose the south if we cant find them here. Thank you all again for your support it has been a great help x
