"Developers and agents selling Northern Cypriot property have been banned from attending a series of exhibitions in Scandinavia after complaints from Southern Cypriot property professionals.

Event organiser Fair Media, which holds 10 exhibitions throughout Sweden, Finland, Norway and Iceland, said that the decision was based purely on commercial grounds as it did not want a mass withdrawal of Southern Cypriot developers from its shows – one of Scandinavia’s most popular second home destinations.

“At a previous show in Norway, we had sold stand space to someone with a Turkish billing address and assumed that this was a Turkish developer coming to the show,” said Sven Kallstrom, chairman of Fair Media. “It was in fact a Northern Cypriot company and halfway through the show, a collective group of representatives from Pafilia, Aristo, Leptos and other Southern Cypriot developers came over and asked us to remove the company from the exhibition.

For me it was fine to have them there, and I hadn’t 100% decided on a policy for this situation, but they threatened to boycott any future events. I am losing money on ignoring Northern Cypriot companies now, and we are getting a lot more enquiries, but I would lose even more money if I allowed them in so we have made our decision.”

Usual gutless reaction from Exhibition Organisers and usual whingeing response from G.C.'s. Who the hell wants to live with them?

And the name Fair Media is a misnomer if ever there was one!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How long before they start to complain about the Pegasus posters on the London Underground that displays "North Cyprus (Ercan)" as a destination. It made my week to see that. If there ever is some sort of solution what on earth will they moan about then?

Carringtons recently held their own exhibition in Russia and by all accounts it went extremely well. Its a shame that the exhibition was stopped as their has been a lot of interest in the north from the scandinavian countries,

Gibson msg 3,

You shouldn't get all annoyed when other people make principled decisions. Try it for yourself - it's good for the soul.

THE (UNST)ABLE SEAMAN

Why then do you have trouble with the principled decisions the rest of us had to buy property here or is your head permanently in the clouds of fantasy and jealousy?

Try some principles yourself and you might understand!!!!!!!!

With most businessmen principles go out of the window when it comes to money, even moreso here in the TRNC. so you cant really blame Fair Medias stance on this.

At least this way there will be less people complaining on the board about being ripped off.

Just a question and one neither of us can have the answer to but do you think the exhibition organisers decision was motivated by of principles or the potential loss of income from exhibitors from the south?

Fair Media, the organisers of the said exhibition made a purely commercial decision whch is their perrogative.

It is cear that they hold no view on the legality of developments in TRNC.

It is unlikely that future development in TRNC will be held to ransom by developers in the ROC. Progress will continue.

Hotels and villas are always available to holiday makers and Cyprus remains a popular holiday destination. The fanatics and marginalised radicals continue to capitalise on any negative made available to them.

Investment in TRNC has seen significant pre-recession bouyancy. If the Government could only get the finer points of the buying process and investment procedures simplified then the TRNC is well placed to see the next boom.

The most lodgical way forward is to hire a hall in a hotel adjacent to the exibition and promote holidays and property sales in the TRNC and Turkey.

With the credit crunch sweeping through Europe. No hotel will turn down a substantial booking or small exibition.

With the Euro nearly on parity with the £ of course the south is worried the Brits are not buying?

Expropriating land for public use is one thing, handing it out (to sell) to totally strangers imported to the island after a military conflict is another.

Don't mix apples and oranges..

I myself happen to live in a house in Kyrenia built on land expropriated by the administration..( I paid for both for the house and the land it is built on)

I doubt the GC land my house is built on ever be a problem when the time comes because hundreds of these houses were built on expropriated land to accomodate young couples 20 years ago...It was for public use not personal profit.

As a Turkish Cypriot who owns property in Limassol i would hate to see my houses being sold by anyone for profit.

At the moment one is occupied by a refugee from Morphou and the other a refugee from Varosha.

Both RENT the houses from the state until a solution is found.

You mean to say Larnaca airport is run for the public good and nobody makes a commercial profit. Please don't make me laugh. I have enough laughter from The Little Boy in the Sailor Suit and his sidekick Suzanne!!!!!!!!!!

Suzanne

I don't live on the there(sic) Island. I live in the T.R.N.C. which in case you haven't noticed is separated from the South, and I certainly do not hate the Turkish Cypriots with whom I have chosen to live. I wouldn't live in the South if I were to be given a free house and an income for life.

Also you should learn to spell as "there Isand" should be "their Isand"

Laugh or not doesn't change the fact that Airports are for public use.

Do you want a mercy moderating on the spelling of Island or was it deliberate?

Explain the "principled" part of you buying property in the north of Cyprus - even if you're chasing an off-plan dream which has soured badly.

Probably the money but also in the Cypriot context it takes a brave person to break ranks with their respective communities.

THE (UNST)ABLE SEAMAN

No I didn't buy off plan. I bought land 10 years ago, designed the house myself and had it built with absolutely no problems whatsoever. As for my Principals they are a matter for me and not for you as you appear not to understand the meaning, living in a Country that you hate and regard as illegal and full of thieves. Or am I missing something about you???

Harol

deliberate to see if Suzanne would come back on it. I guess not

Pike,

You would not know a "principled decision" if it came over and bit you in the A**E, all you do is talk your SC clap trap, and dis-infomation on things you know nothing or very little about, I'm sure you come on here to P**S people off on purpose.

Why don't you go and sit in the car park and talk to your mates, thats if you have any

Nice one Rodger the dodger. However He does have one friend. The other half of that well known comedy duo The Little Boy in the Sailor suit is his sidekick Suzanne.

No room in the car though due to the massive chips on their shoulders!!!!!!!!!!!!
