Hello all, tried a quick search on here but couldn't find anything so can anyone tell me? I believe you can get longer life immersion heater elements. Any idea where I can purchase from and how much? Pref' east of Girne but not too fussed if west. Thanks

Doubt you'll ever find one or even if they even technically exist. The immersions tend to pack up as they become encrusted in limescale that is a major problem with the TRNC water supply. Don't think that the immersion that repels limescale exists.

The setting of the thermostat is all important. At 85 degrees C. it may last three months, at 60 degrees C. you may expect it to last five years. ismet

Msg 10 & 13 good advice... Not only that, with a high setting like 85C the water will literally boil in the top of the tank and what's the point... heating water up so hot it can't be used safely without mixing cold water into it... pointless, expensive, damaging and downright dangerous too. Scalding injuries are one of the worst domestic accidents for anyone to contend with. Yet so many 'trained electricians' fit them with the element thermostat set to max. Using far too much electricity. In the UK I used to go around armed with a screwdriver adjusting the settings on hot water tanks for people complaining about high electric bills and often cut their costs in half.

Kirk is your man. The Baker stainless heater elements are good. The stainless has a melting temperature of 1,400+ degrees C and the copper on the cheaper elements 1084degree C. Baker offer a 10 year guarantee in the UK. You can turn the temperature down as advised by Baker for copper elements but then you will not have enough hot water for a decent bath.

The biggest problem with immersion heaters here is the lime scale, and as it builds up the element cannot dissipate its heat so the element generally short to earth, but by keeping your thermostat to 55 to 60c It should last a good while. I fit the Backer all the time and give a full 12 months guarantee.
