Went to Nosheen's for lunch today. Ordered our food & drink, then went outside for a cigarette - it was cold & wet but hey ho! that.s the rules - you want a fag- you go outside. Back in - food arrives, starters lovely, then main course comes - fantastic. Then a guy arrives with a small shaggy Cyprus poodle type dog - very cute.......but very smelly (it's been raining hard) We are at the next table......can no longer taste or smell my yummy curry or garlic nan - all I'm getting is - 'aroma de wet dog' So. asked for our meals to be put into 'doggy bags' and left. We did mention the dog thing to the manager as we paid the bill. Just wondering what other folks views are - apart from guide dogs - do you think dogs should be allowed in restaurants?

ps - I'm a dog lover (honest) but not at the dining table when they are wet & smelly!

Anyone with any consideration for others would never take a pet into a restaurant ....smoking's horrible,

too, but at least smokers never look at you as if to say "Isn't my cigarette cute"

No but some think you should appreciate their inalienable right to smoke in your presence - even if you were there first.

both, why take your dog to a restaurant, someone else's dog is not 'cute' whilst people are eating...

Smoking, at least now every one can enjoy eating out with out smelling of old socks after wards ..

By law pets are not allowed into restaurants, bars and establishments serving food that need to abide by the requisite health codes. If found there the establishment can be closed for up to four weeks by the Belediye.

Rowlo it's probably best to not let the dog smoke, though I know its hard with those beagles.

Was the dog callled "Hamlet"?

Seriously I would never dream of taking even my best behaved dog into a resteraunt, nor even, as some do , have it sit beside me at a table outside.

I do,however, patronise resteraunts where I can tie the dogs outside to a post or tree or leave in the car within view of where I am sitting, but far enough away not to disturb other patrons. I wish more resterautns would provide shaded "hitching rails" so that dog owners could stop for a bite or a sup when walking dogs, and be able to keep the dogs under supervision without creating a nuisance.

Oh Maggie, and you were soo looking forward to your lunch.

I babysat my grandchildren the other day. Baby asleep for afternoon nap, so thought (stupidly) that i could spend quality time with my seven year old grandson,.........

no way,

some ignorant, thoughtless person, parked their car opposite, presumably collecting their dog after a holiday, dog inside, car,it barked endlessly for over an hour while they were in the house, presumably drinking coffee.

Hence, baby woke, poor seven year old took second place , yet again.

I think these people are on a different planet, can't they also hear the row???????

The dog should not have been taken into the restaurant - I despair of some dog folk - I too love dogs, but not everyone does - that aside, hygiene should be paramount...

Sardunya Bay (before the dog ban) was just awful, dogs everywhere yapping (2 in particular) messing all over the beach and the owners just sitting there ignoring the beloved pets, why oh why do people have to take the dogs with them when they are going out for a bite and drinkies I just don't get it

As I said in my original post, I love dogs and this was a particularly cute one...to look at! But it had obviously just been taken for a walk in the rain. When it's owner brought it into the warm restaurant the pong just hit us! yuck! I don't object to well behaved dogs, on leashes, at outside venues but this was just plain selfishness on the part of the owner!

Msg 10 Gordon, I Didn't realise that there was a law about this or I may have tried insisting that he took the dog outside - as it was we just mentioned on leaving that maybe they should not have dogs inside.

I despair at the attitude of some dog owners, love me love my dog syndrome. I for one do not want to eat at a restaurant with dogs inside, or tied by the outside table, why would you want to take a dog with you if you're going out to eat?

It's the same in the summer at the Saturday morning market, poor dogs on leads being dragged round getting knocked and trodden on, just seems pointless to me, and yes, I do like dogs, but in their place.

I don't see a problem with a dog sitting quietly next to its owner outside , but inside i do think is unfair to others.

The sad thing is there is not that many places dog owners can take their dogs out to. Taking a dog out and meeting other people and other situations is all part of socialisation for a dog.

message 20,

Some dog owners go for a long walk and stop halfway at a pub/restaurant for some thing to eat, they then carryon with their walk, and head back home, perhaps not all dog owners JUST go to the restaurant,it might form part of their full day,I speak from personal experience, and have never been denied access to an area within a pub to eat, provided your dog is fully house trained, what harm is there, walking yesterday, called into the pub for a drink,3 other dog owners in the pub,all out walking for the day and with their dogs,1 owner had 3 Setter dogs on leads!

davpat,

But you are talking about the UK where it is expected and accepted. TRNC is different, here you can moan about anything at all and start a thread that leads to disaster, just because you feel like it.

Example: Last night I went out for a meal in a well known place and came home stinking of perfume/aftershave because there was a party of people there who just wanted to show how much they could smell nicely. I think perfume should be banned if you are eating and people with too much on should be made to stand outside with the smokers and wet dogs!!!

However, dogs and food should be kept separate if not for H&S at least to stop the eaters from being stared into submission by the dogs till they get a bit of what they want. Keep the dog out of the restaurant but let them stand up to the bar like everyone else!!!

Its a great life!!!!

Waddo: "To stop people being stared into submission" - yes, that is one of the reasons why I dont let my dogs sit at table - at home let alone in a resteraunt! Particularly with a dog with spaniel eyes and powers of hypnotism.

Surely "taking the dog for a walk" - straight to the nearest pub - is a Great British Tradition! (Food is a different matter). Just dont let them eat TOO many crisps, they are not really good for them.

A lot of us would not have time to stop for drinks, coffee , food , it we had to go all the way back home to return our dogs after a walk. Surely its simple at least in summer - provide a space for dogs in sight of owners but not too close to diners. Why all the fuss!

Hands up, I am the perpertrator of the horrendous crime of taking my dog into Nosheen's on Sunday. Thanks for the compliment, yes, she is very cute. You omitted to say she was very well behaved, curling up under the table and going to sleep. You clearly have a more developed smell than me, as I haven't noticed she smells bad. But she is due her bi-monthly bath this week, as recommended by the vet.

Possibly you were a trifle petulant in walking out? If you had told me of your objection, I would have cheerfully put the dog into my car. No fuss, no trouble. Or perhaps you find it more satisfactory to go home in a huff and winge on this website.

How strange, I was sat with Hairy Peggy01 in Nosheens, and his cute, well behaved little dog Peggy.Although sensitive to smells, I didn't notice any smell from Peggy (and I was at the same table!) I DID note that the table next to us had two people, one of whom went out for a smoke and came back. I did not object to the smell of smoke on her person or clothing when she returned. Often when sat in a bar or restaurant the person sitting next to me reeks of tobacco when they return from their life saving smoke "outside".

If restaurants or other venues do not wish dogs on their premises they should place a prominent notice at the entrance to inform people of their policy.

I was told to remove my two well behaved dogs, on short 6"leads, from Lamboosa market, (Outside) last Saturday. A Fair policy if it were directed to ALL dogs owners. There are numerous dogs at Lamboosa market which snap at anything near them but it seems their owner is NOT Gerry Lee so they can stay !!!
