I guess it could be a pretty lonely place if you don't know anyone.

blond. Have you been to NC? suggest you visit and weigh up the situation yourself. Lots of postings have been on here asking the same questions as yourself information given by many people and the poster comes back on here not believing what they are advised that is why you are asked are you genuine.

Blond... it all depends on where you would be living... what age group you are.... if you need to work etc. Not something that can be answered in a general manner. There are plenty of ex-pats in NC and so you should not have any problem meeting people and it is a great place to live as long as you don't need to work/earn money whilst you are there.

If you decide to go then good luck to you... go and enjoy the sunshine and scenery.

I think it depends what you are looking for, where you go and who you mix with, but I know some older ladies who have moved here on their own and it hasn't been all they hoped for. Also, living here is not the same as enjoying a holiday here so make sure you look in to everything properly. Good luck and hope things work out for you.

There are lots of single women living here who seem to be very happy, but you MUST be finantially stable. To get residency you have to show proof of income. My advice to you would be to to join a group of like minded people, such as a charity where you get to meet lots of new people, or join the ladies darts team, anything to get you out and about. Look for people who share your interests and I don't think you will have any problems, but you have to make the effort, friends will not come to you if you sit in a bar on your own, hoping to meet someone. Generally, the people who live here are very welcoming and friendly, but keep your options open. Come and rent for 6 months without giving up your home in the UK and see how it goes. I wish you luck, I admire a strong woman who is not afraid to take a risk. Hope this has been helpful to you, all the best, Pam.

Thank you for all your posts. I should perhaps have given some more info.

My husband died 2 years ago and I can't seem to settle in the UK - we lived overseas for 21 years in different countries so the UK is a "new" country to me. It's fine, just missing overseas life.

Financially stable, not seeking paid employment. Also not looking for a gentleman. Have also been to NC many times over the years and know some of the pitfalls. Would rent. Have property in the UK and would not burn bridges. It has always "felt" like a nice place to live.

Thanks again.

Hi blond,

I too am thinking of moving to TRNC when I take early retirement.

I hope to have enough money to live comfortably, but this might depend on the tax question. If I have to pay tax at 40% on my UK pension before I receive it and there is no way to recover this UK tax then I might have to rethink.
