My elderly neighbours who have been on a weeks holiday from the UK staying in their house here, received a call from a Turkish spoken man on their Turkish mobile yesterday morning. The man spoke half English/Turkish and asked his name several times and my neighbour answered, the man mentioned the police, then said "I am f#####g going to get you" and left my neighbour very shocked and upset. He has the number on his phone. Of course the man could of rung the wrong number.....Is there a way of tracing a number here please? It began with 0536. My neigbours is leaving at 4pm this afternoon to go back to the UK. Regards, Mrs Snakes.

Was this in TRNC? If so, why not try giving the number to the police?

I had a problem with an anonymous phone caller for months. I once counted how many calls I received in the day and it was 76 but I refused to change my number (to much hassle), anyway I went to the police in Girne and they tracked the caller down to somewhere in Turkey and got in touch with the local police.

Maybe ??? The police could help your neighbours in this situation, I really don't know but what have they got to lose.

My mystery caller was a woman who thought I was having an affair with her husband and it turned out that there was one digit she had got wrong and ended up calling me!!

I think 0536 is a turkish mobile number, most probably a wrong number but distressing none the less!

Give the number to the Police they will be able to find out who it was.

Scooby, thanks for the information, although it did make me smile!! My neighbours have just left for the Airport and only told me this morning, I said I would go to the police with them if they wanted me too, but time was very short. It is just a bit upsetting hearing what they heard for them. Kind regards, Mrs S.

A Ukranian woman I know was harrassed by a TC woman. She went to the police at Girne who severely reprimanded the TC woman and made her apologise properly. There was no further trouble.

She may have just been lucky but I think you will find the police supportive if you go to them.

0536 is a Turkcell number.

Write an SMS: Kim 536xxxxxxx

and send it to 8780

Within seconds you will get back a message with the name of the owner or tell you that it is not registered which is usually the case.

If I was your neighbour, whilst I would appreciate your concern, I wouldn't be happy that you had informed the world and his wife, that they were leaving their property empty as of this afternoon (in light of the 'phone call or otherwise). Giving your picture and location, it wouldn't be rocket science to work out where the empty house is...

Thank you Elko, that is very helpful.

Ms Garnet, thank you for your comments to which I have noted. Perhaps then all the people on here that say they are going here there and everywhere, whether it be off back to UK, coming here for 3 weeks etc, off to a restaurant/gig/quiz tonight, attending a big charity event advertised, should think carefully when advertising their home will be vacant? This will cut down a lot of posts!! Not sure what my picture has got to do with it either!! Also, drive around the North, there are hundreds of empty places........
