First no replies about enough animals in TRNC.

I have confirmation with Turkish Airlines that I can fy Doha to Istanbul, but not Istanbul to Ercan, is this normal, when I spoke to a rep she said that Ercan airport refuses to accept animals. How can I get from Doha to TRNC, my dog is a Shih Tzu so she is classed as snub nose, and not all airlines will fly them.

Thanks Lor

Lor, load of nonsense about ercan not accepting animals!!

Problems can arise if booking agent is not used to dealing with animal bookings.

Quite honestly if you have not booked your ticket I suggest you go through Ankara travel here in Girne. You can do this by email and credit card payment. The person to contact there is Eren, 0090392 815 5658, he is an ace booker and has sorted out many pet transports with Turkish Airlines.

As you'd be travelling both legs with same airline your pets can travel as escorted excess baggage and transit flights at Istanbul. You may have to be a bit flexible with dates as it is not always possible to get a cat and a dog on same flight from Ist. due to the aircraft size, but Eren will do his best to sort for you.

Good job Qatar Air won't carry shih tzus so you can't use them. just had a lady who lost her cat at ist. when being moved from Qatar to freight service to Ercan.

Happy to help you in any way I can - my email is janbosley@yahoo.co.uk

Friends have done the same trip with a dog and said it was easy with the dog under house quarantine rather than kennels.

When I brought my cat in from Jeddah in Saudi I contacted KAR beforehand (Kyrenia Animal Rescue) and they told me exactly what I needed to do and I did it. We flew Turkish Airlines and although we had a stopover in Istanbul we got him here no problems. They also helped me get my cat to Spain from here and again we flew Turkish Airlines.

Don't try to do it on your own though KAR are invaluable in the advice they give.

I also took advice from my vet in Jeddah on what was needed and he did all the paperwork for me. I remember they had to take paperwork to the Turkish Embassy and get his vet certificate signed and stamped I think it was to do with exporting my cat . Hope this helps.

Thanks to you all for your advice. @shel56 we too planned to go to Istanbul and then on to TRNC, but the confirmation for the 2nd part was not given by the airport, this was also with Turkish Airlines, I spoke to the rep that made the reservation and 2 different reps on the phone, the answer was that Ecran would not accept the pets, which are a domestic cat and a Shih Tzu.

My vet here in Doha has all the info needed for entry into Larnaca and Ecran. Today I went to the office of Gulf Air and they told me that the aircraft for the 2nd part into LCA was on a A319 and that they wouldnt take them. Then Royal Jordanian gave me the good news that they would take them into LCA but when I checked its on a A319. If Gulf Air wont take them on a 319 do I trust RJ.

Anyway, I followed Anns advise and spoke to Eren today, he is going to try and sort it out, Eren will try and let me know tomorrow if its possible. Fingers crossed.

Eren contacted me today, still no luck with Turkish Airlines, he will try again with them on Sunday. We are recieving conflicting reports from them and he will very kindly try to sort it. I have another option and that is to use Royal Jordanian that trip will last 24 hours, but I feel thats to long for them to be in their cages. Middle East Airline sounds like a good bet but the first leg of the journey is a share with Qatar who wont take the Shih Tzu and after killing a cat in Anns post I dont want to trust them. I have even looked into flying them back to Abu Dhabi and reach TRNC that way, but I keep hitting the same stumbling blocks, either the airline wont take the dog, or its the wrong size plane. I have even sent emails to private jets to get a quote, and they cant even be bothered to reply. How on earth do people leave their pets behind? I am so stressed out at the thought of not being able to bring them with me. Has anyone flown to Tukey and then caught a ferry with pets. Thank

Hi Lor,

Have you contacted an IPATA approved pet shippers to help? There's a registered agent in Qatar and Istanbul and between them they can arrange the whole relocation for you and assure you that your pet arrives safely.....in saying that many airlines will not now accept 'snub nosed breeds' but where there's a will there's a way and pet shippers don't give up ;-).

IPATA (International pat and animal transportation association) http://www.ipata.org

Qatar - http://www.qatarpettravel.com

Istanbul - http://www.sumerman.com

Hope it helps

Thank you Gulequle, I will wait to see what Eren can do for me on Sunday, if that fails I will try your suggestion. I contacted Nicky from Pet travel yesterday and will follow up after Erens call/email. A glimmer of hope came today in an Email to Qatar Cargo that Gulf air may take them, but we have to check again on April 12th, this is into LCA. If Eren cant get me into Ercan then I will just look at the LCA route.

Thanks again to all the suggestions, I will let you know the outcome.
