Be very careful about having a gas heater on in the bedroom. You must have adequate ventilation to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning from the gas burning. You wont smell it, you'll simply pass out. . It's absolutely deadly.

A mother died in a tent awning on their caravan in the UK recently after bringing in the bar b q to keep them warm overnight. The fumes from the smouldering charcoal gave off carbon monoxide gas fumes and killed her and almost killed her husband and children.

Yes, but two will have to sleep on the couches, other than that I can sleep 4 in 2 spare bedrooms. Not kidding either, if you are really desperate to keep warm then ring me. But you will have to put the milk on your own weetabix!

Sure would like to have you as a friend. Chruswife if you are ill and can't keep warm in bed then send someone to buy a blanket or battaniye. Not the very thick one, and wrap it around you. It will keep you warm. They have them in Lemar..Not sure they are long enough. But you can buy them Wednesday at the marked. There are more places, just can't remember now.

My old dad once told me, that a fire costs the same even if it warms 50 people. Also that it costs the same to cook 6 potatoes as a single one. He was a lovely human being who shared everything. I hate the thought of someone being ill and cold. Anyway, my phone number is there if needed. I do know though, that it is harder to receive than to give.

Message 3. This is quite common as a suicide act. Disposable BBQ in a small room, often the bathroom. Off thread slightly....sorry.

| What a very nice gesture Chriswife I hope you feel better soon. You could use the gas fire with the bedroom door open. I have just been told by him beside me, Mr Spider, that if things get so bad and no electric blanket we could always make up a bed in the lounge and just live in the one room So far the electric has stayed on here. | It is a little worrying that lots of OAP's are without heating. Please remember that although temperatures are lower in the UK, houses are better insulated and there is more publicity about supporting your neighbours and support networks are usually only a phone call away. If the strikes continue please just check to see your neighbours are as comfortable as can be and more importantly are not at risk. |

Suehowlittle your dad does sound lovely and so true that a fire costs the same even if it warms 50 people etc etc It's a good idea if it gets too cold wherever you are, to just concentrate keeping one room warm and stay in there. Also put layers on. We are such wimps these days what did we do before electricity never mind central heating?

Bradus your right about a support network in Uk. The Electric and Gas suppliers have obligations for their licences and must offer special services to their customers who are pension age, disabled or suffering from a chronic illness or visual or hearing problems and if they are eligible they can sign up for the Priority Service Register where they can get alternative cooking and heating facilities, IF, there was a major incident or a power cut. Its a shame that Kibtec cannot show their support to their own vulnerable people and expats in the same way. What happens to hospitals etc. do they have their own generators?

Mess 24 - I hope you get well soon, perhaps we might meet some day. I think they are striking because the government is wanting to privatise Kibtek, obviously they would not have the same contracts and I am sure they are very nervous about whether they will even keep their jobs. Punishing the general public though is not the way to gain support for their cause. Anyway, never mind it all, keep warm and get better.
