Car from the south to the north

I have friend who lives in the south who spends a month at at time in the uk, he has offerd to lend us his car while he is in the uk, anyone know if we bought the car over to the north could we use it here for a couple of weeks while we are on holiday, then take it back.



Car would be insured and taxed in the south, and insured for the north.

guess you need to check that the insurance is adequate for the north I understand some hire cars can be taken north but in the event of an accident and the car needs to be transported back that may be at your cost.

If the vehicle has fully comprehensive insurance in the south then it is covered for the whole island but you need to bear in mind that if it is damaged here it will need to be returned to the south for repairs. Apart from that, no problem.

My son lives in Napa. Sometimes I use his car in the North.

Pretty staightforward...Take southern Insurance paperwork to Insurance Booth along with your Driving Licence and buy your months insurance 25 euros.

The car will need to have Southern insurance that covers any driver....Alternatively your name needs to be on the insurance.

You will also need to produce driving licence... I cannot remember off hand if you need to produce MOT. It is a fact that even if you have full Comp insurance you are still required to buy Turkish Insurance....

You buy third party Insurance...in the event of an accident/breakdown you will be responsible for getting the car back to the south.
