It's all in the title really.

Has Ahmet closed down permanently or just for the winter?

Doesn't anyone round about know? Maybe he has gone off for a bit of sunshine,m or visit familyor.... isn't there a notice on the door|? I thought that was as much a part ofKyrenia as the castle, so I do hope that nothing bad has happened. Or maybe he has retired, but then surely he would have told people.

Ahmet relies on a lot of outdoor customers, maybe the weather is too cold although in December we sat inside he put a heater on for us, is the spirits and tobacco shop shut too?

Yes it is.

It's the first winter we have known him close as we usually have lunch inside in the winter when we are in town.

I seem to recall now a few a couple of weeks ago the Chef from there was asking about jobs. We did notice just before Christmas not as many people in there as there usally was, we always visited two or three times in the 4 weeks there.

What a shame, always good food, friendly staff and a good location for people watching. It was a place where once you sat down you were there for at least an hour or two if not more.

Ahmet is a lovely man, will miss the cafe very much as we've been using it for 10 years.

Re message 11:

The good thing about Cafe De Paris was that there was a good mix of locals and expats. If it became a sandwich bar you would not have the same mix as I think that the locals are not ready for English sandwiches.

AJ. You are probably right I for one would not be buying english sandwiches there either. My husband can speak turkish so used to have a little chat with Ahmet also met him when walking on a Sunday he was always in his garden.

Someone should take it over as a "French" cafe, coffee, wine and french fayre, but not. please no not another place catering for the anglo saxons and celts, there are 4 across the road all in a row fighting for trade now, cafe paris was a special spot and should remain so.

I quite agree and I hope that anyone that takes the cafe on will understand exactly what the cafe meant to everyone, locals and expats alike.

Spoke to Ahmet last week, he is keeping the wine store/cigarette shop and new people have taken over the cafe. He says they will have a similar menu and prices to what he used to do.

Phew! Thank goodness for that!!
