Do you think the turkish mainlanders who have dogs chained up will go and register them.

What happens to dogs that are not registered? Are they treated like street dogs, taken to KAR registered and tagged?

Babrew, what are you saying? That all Turkish main landers tie their dogs up and don't have any transport? Seems a bit of an over assumption.

Lauvaine, Yes this seems to be an over assumption on behalf of Babrew, what is fact is that they do aquire puppys for their children, and when they tier of that puppy it's dumped in some isolated location, or if it's lucky and that individual is feeling compassionate it might be dumped in an ex-bat area for them to give the poor thing a home.

Why do we English have to register dogs when there are so many locals that do not and would not be able to as Ive mentioned above - why would they register a dog tied on a chain. What about all the hunting dogs I wonder if they are registered. So many go missing but they have no identity on them. And there are so many street dogs unregistered.

mmmm confused.com

what a useless and pointless thread!!! First stating that Turkish mainlanders mistreat and do no register dogs - followed by other statements about locals and ex - pats having different rules . Well a Turkish maimnlander is NOT a local , and live by the same rules that ALL foreigners in KKTC live by.

My ( Turkish ) husband used to walk our 2 dogs to the registration point every year ( about 1 hour 15 minute round trip fromour home ) - why would he put them in the car and drive them - the dogs were extremely exciteable and would cause a crash hazard.

Our ( Turkish ) friends used to do the same - walk there dogs to the registration point - where the relevant paperwork would be filled out and the dogs receive their worming tablets.

We now live in Turkey - and there are no dogs tied up here - I suggest that alot of the tied up dogs in Cyprus are in fact owned by Cypriots .

Babrew perhaps you should open your eyes more and your mouth less.

Babrew -

I lived in North Cyprus for 7 years - I moved to Turkey 6 months ago - so I am well aware of '' how it is here '' .

You are making very derogatory and misinformed statements.

Sorry, Babrew, my point wasn't that dogs aren't tied up but that it isn't only Turkish mainlanders who do this. I live in a fairly Cypriot area and can assure you that we have several neighbours that keep their dogs on chains or in cages all the time.I also have another neighbour who has been through four different puppies in the two years I have lived in this house.

Lauvaine, msg18.

You say in your post:- "I also have another neighbour who has been through four different puppies in the two years I have lived in this house."

That is what has happened in my case, but we managed to save the latest puppy from being dumped up by this Turkish family, and she (her new name Sammy) now lives with us.

Friends of ours that have only been here in TRNC for 6 months have taken in 3 stray/dumped dogs.
