Why do the 'companies and so-called businessmen in TRNC not want to pay people for their work? Twice now I have been left out of pocket by working jobs and not getting paid! I have spent the last 3 weeks working for a local company - I had to work UK and Cypriot bank holidays and still they don't want to pay you anything for the time/effort you have given them! Name and shame i think soon!!

of course there is no employment protection in TRNC employers can do as they like I know of a few employers who dont pay their staff what they are due when it is due, if the staff leave that does not help...coz they wont get paid again....

Because 90% of them are chancers, not businessmen, and have no business ability, hence the reason also so many only last a few months. It does however give them a few months to pout the bottom lip, shrug the shoulders, and say "I am a businessman" and impress the family. In future jobs, try to negotiate a 'day-rate' get paid daily, no pay at the end of the day, no go the next day. If the employer intends to pay, then no reason not to do this, if they don't want to pay each day, ask yourself why not. Name and shame (there can't be that many surely) so others don't fall into the same trap.

Surely if you are eligible to work (i.e. all the local legal documents etc) and you are on a contract then you should be paid and should name and shame. Mind you - there are some people who work without documents / not paying tax etc and I guess those sorts can get stiffed by the people they work for (i.e. not sticking with the rules works both ways).

Jonesy299, a lot of people have contracts for the houses they bought, drawn up by "lawyers" and still that didn't help them so I wouldn't hold up much hope for a contract of employment. Plus they'd have to take their employers to court and the prosecution "lawyer" would want the poor (as in unpaid) employee to pay up front for the privilege of justice

I agree, I work for what I believed was a very respectable pool cleaning company and had to leave due to non payment of 2 months pay. I was handed 100ytl here and there and always given the promise it would be sorted. Were it not for the nature of the job and spending all day in the glorious sunshine I'd have packed it in sooner. Name and shame is needed.....
