URGENT HELP NEEDED-Person Missing North Cyprus

Andy- white male lives in Ozankoy last seen Monday night 20.00 hrs. He is approximately 6.3" tall, of medium build, grey to white hair worn short, clean shaven. Wearing a grey fleece. If you have seen Andy since 10pm last night PLEASE contact the police in Girne asap.

Unhelpful comments will not be appreciated we have been searching since this morning without any sucess.

Given the power situation wishes of good luck etc are kind but unnecessary when we have limited electric.

PLEASE search your gardens, sheds etc if you live in the local area.

If anyone can translate this is to turkish it would be a great help as we can then reach all the community.

PLEASE LOOK it will only take a short while.

We are all very worried especially his wife.

The police were in Courtyard with a picture asking if anyone had seen him, about an hour ago.He has no ID with him but does have an electricty bill with his address on. He may be confused after a recent fall Please everybody get out and look for him. This is very serious.

A few pointers that may assist you when looking for a missing person

Full description, Name, age, height, build full details,,,,,, imagine him stood in front of you now in what he was wearing last time he was sighted including glasses facial hair and clothing. Has he any tattoo's or any visible identification watch etc the list is endless and obvioulsy a recent photo will assist even more. All seems obvious but in panic people forget obvious

Also a contact No so any possible sightings could be reported back. Check hospitals, anything missing from home passport etc he may be very confused and think he is going back home to UK nothing is too far fetched

Has he been missing before and if so where located as an obvious place to search, some people are found at places they know.

It is mentioned he is vulnerable due to a fall are there any other medical concerns such as Alzheimers as people who suffer this when go missing walk suprising lon but tend to go in straight direct.

Hospitals have been checked, passport and wallet at home, a full discription and more info has been written but it was put on by a new member, so if admin could sped up the clearance it would be great.. Thanks so far for all your concern.

The sightings early on cannot have been him as he was at home until 10.30pm.

The photo which has been posted is a recent as it gets - just put a fleece on him.

He left his house in central Ozankoy - where it was obviously pitch black.

He always goes out at this time to go to his local bar the 5 Fingers.

Alex had called him at about 10.10 to advise him that the bar would be shut due to the power cut.

This is why we are all confused - we are all desperately thinking where he may have gone.

He left the house in an up beat mood - and did not have his passport on him.

Unforfunately his mobile phone was out of charge - thanks to the electric company.

I am absolutely gutted.

We are all out searching for him today - may God answer our prayers - and that we find him somewhere safe and sound......xxxx we love you Andyxxxxx

I don't know if this helps, but having seen the photo posted, I believe I saw a guy with a grey top on with white hair walking towards town near Escape beach, Karaoglanoglu at around 3 30pm yesterday afternoon. He made me think it was the white haired guy who writes in the Cyprus today. I would put him at about 5ft 10. He had a bottle of water in his hand so just looked to be out walking, didn't look rough or disturbed at all. My contact no is 0533 8491329. Just hope it can help you.

A major search is being carried out in and around Ozankoy at this moment, with a large number of british Residence, The 112 Volunteers, a dozen police officers (who have already searched the village), Fire Officers are also involved.

As yet we have no definite plans for tomorrow, we are trying to find out first, in the morning, what the police think and if they are p-lanning anything. We will post or text as soon as we know.

In the meantime do not stop looking, whether you are driving along a road or walking your dog. He has to be somewhere and we have to find him.

I went to Cratos about an hour ago and gave them a copy of Andy's description in Turkish and English. I left them at the gate entrance and in the hotel lobby. Also went to Patina and spoke to a guy ,who I think is the Manager, he has copies of Andy's description. It was dark in the garden and on the track approaching the restuarant, as the electric was off again, he said we could check the garden area in the morning. I will do this first thing.

It is obvious that we can't find him in Ozankoy so logic decrees that we try further afield. With that in mind Mo is getting a load of flyers printed in the morning at Magic Touch and will be distributing them at the traffic lights etc. A load of flyers will be left at Magic Touch so if you can help tomorrow we would ask if you could collect some from there and go where ever you feel you can give them out, eg harbour around the Window Bar area into town, towards the Jasmine Court on the ropad out of town, around HSBC etc. The only thing we would asik is if you phone Alex on 0533 8458278 and let us know which area you will be doing.

Obviously until tomorrow I will not know at what time the flyers will be printed, but I will post here as soon asI know.Please be positive and say a little prayer as well.

I hope I am not trying to teach Granny to suck eggs - but have all the unoccupied houses where swallows are on holiday , with their grounds and swimming pools been checked, where he might have sheltered from the weather, also building sites.



Sorry I am too lame to be of help in a seach, but I have a spaniel cross - not trained (other than basic pet good behaviour) but he has a good nose and a strong sense of curiosity and, despite the weather, dogs like him sense something out of the ordinary that a a human might miss.

I have a friend who does not profess to be a medium but she does have what she calls high sensitivity to certain situations and when I told her about Andy she got an instant picture of an old car, surrounded by grass in the middle of a field. It came to her just as a flash and I know it is a long shot but everything needs to be checked out. So if anyone has an old car close to where they live please take a look you just never know!

Please please don't dismiss this as mumbo jumbo, some people do have this abilty and anything that helps to find Andy is worth a try. Please - just go and have a look!

All the shops and bars along the main drag from Lemar Catalkoy up to Bo Thai restaurant have accepted flyers to display or ask their customers. BO THAI WAS CLOSED ITSELF. Flyers are in Turkish and English, which was just as well as one small insurance office said " I speak no English " turned it over and read the Turkish.

Hi I have just come back from Girne where we have been putting posters up in Turkish & English and asking people if they have seen Andy. Mo and Lib were there and then going on else where to look. Police have checked credit card and it has not been used. He had a little cash. His mobile phone battery has run out and the last logged call was before 10pm on Monday night.

Gerry have texted Lib your details and asked her to contact you.

As we have all been out no one has been on the forum.

PLEASE do not assume Andy wont be in your shed, garage, neighbours empty house, half built or derelict building. PLEASE CHECK. Plus any cars that have not moved recently.

It was mentioned in an earlier thread that Andy liked going to 5 Fingers, could it be that he has taken a wrong turning or gone up the Crusader path, the back way up to Bellapais. There used to be a ravine up there before you hit Bellapais. Could he have gone further up to the mountains. Did anyone talk to the soldiers up at Bellapais to see if they may have seen anyone walking around that area because past the soldiers is the road leading to the mountains.



Sincerely hope something is heard about him soon.

Could anyone ask turkcell to send out a blanket text I know they can for advertising and they may help for nothing in this case. I have spoken to our Turkish friends in Catalkoy and they did not know about anyone missing so may be more can be done to inform local people as they can reach so many more people than the forum.

I think everyone loking in their sheds and gardens is fine and none of us would like to think Andy might have had an accident - but being realistic (or a pessimist) may help save lives!



Lets assume Andy did get disorientated in darkness, when Five Fingers was shut. The man could have tripped, rolled and fell in some crevice where he is trapped (especially if he is hurt and away from the main road). I hope I am totally wrong but the possibility does exist! That being the case, the fastest way to locate Andy would be from a low flying helicopter over the area.



I know from my flying days at Pınarbaşı, the army helicopters are very helpful when requested to carry out a search & rescue operation. Has anyone close to Andy suggested this to the police or tried requesting help from the military? Everyone is assuming Andy is just wandering around and hence, spending time with posters and fliers! What if the man is invisible to normal range of vision, close to roads and trac

As a management company we check all void properties every week. Sadly we have not found him on any of our properties, sites or grounds.



Could all management companies, service providers out there please have a look even if it is not in the same area. You never know he could be anywhere on the Island by now. Also there are quite a lot of restaurants in Ozankoy/Catalkoy that are closed for winter. Again it is a thought a door may not be closed properly and a good place to take shelter. The abandoned car at HZ Omer is empty.

Can a close family member to the missing person send me an e mail address so i can send details onto a friend who is a serving police officer and search advisor he will send information direct to that family memeber to assist them with the efforts. He stressed it needs to be sent to close family member as there are questions that only the next of kin might be aware of, such as medical concerns etc. Once that e mail address has been received I will then pass it onto my friend who will forward the information on.

I hope this assists with your search.

Guys, I think posters should be placed inside hotel receptions so that staff are made aware. Is there not a possibility he has checked into a hotel for a few nights? I highly doubt the receptionists at these hotels are aware of the situation.

i think it would also be an idea if anyone can show the Shepherd who walks around the village with his sheep a picture of Andy? He is in and out of fields all day long, so he would probably have a good chance of finding him if he is in the more remote areas, I know that the Shepherd is deaf, but i'm sure if you show him a picture he would be really happy to help.

It has been decided to do another search of the ozankoy village again

tomorrow, focusing on upper Ozankoy.

We will be meeting again at 5 fingers at 10 am and setting off from there.

This is obviously as dreadful situation and my thoughts are very much with Andy's family. It is hard to believe that a man of his age would wander far, particularly at night, and one can't help thinking that he is still in the village somewhere. Have the police REALLY checked all the empty buildings and cars - including the wrecked van behind the garage in the centre of the village! If Andy was going to 5 Fingers for a drink and it was closed, surely his next move would be to try another bar in the village. I would check all the bars that are currently closed in case he entered one of them through a door which had been inadvertently left open. Everything is worth a try.

Mo has suggested the police contact the army and they are considering the issue. It is only the police that can offically request the armys assistance.

The police, 112 and volunteers have been searching local villages and areas since Tuesday without sucess yet!

The idea of poster and fliers is to A. Jog any ones memory of seeing Andy, B.Advise people of what Andy looks like C. Encourage people to look for him.

Weather permitting a micro light is going to fly over Ozankoy and surrounding area tomorrow and the pilot will take pictures. It can fly lower than a helicopter. Plus sniffer dogs will be in use from Gerry . Big thanks.

Discussions are taking place between Civil Defence, 112 and Police re next search plan as I type.

Good idea re Property Companies will place a posting and contact in person tomorrow

Or even got on the wrong bus at Girne coming back. Would it be worth asking bus driver, particularly Ozankoy to Girne route? Any one living near a bus stop check local pubs etc. fanning out.?

Posters up in Pine Bay Alsancak, I don't think for a minute that Andy could have got this far without being seen but just want to make as many people aware of situation as possible, having been on the mountain above Catalkoy most of the day I am pretty scared for the guy, I tried to get to get as high above Ozonkoy as I could but conditions were dreadful and it is impossible to see down into every ravine or gully, only low flyover can hope to find him if he is on the mountain, going into his 4th night out I hope he is not up there, seen nothing on local tv stations yet all my cypriot friends watch the news every day, all our thoughts are with family

The positive news is that he told me the same issue happened before in Magusa and Lefkosa, and they were all found.

Having been involved in missing persons enquiries, can I make the suggestion that the very first thing that should be done, and I know it's obvious, or it's already been done, or suggested but I'll suggest it anyway. Search thoroughly and I mean thoroughly, his home and immediate surrounding area. I've had a case where the house was initially searched by the police. The OIC then sent a search team in and he was found in the rafters of the garage roof. Strange but true.

What can happen is everyone thinks that someone must have thoroughly searched the blindingly obvious places close to or at home but it's been missed.

can only echo the message of an earlier post and please check and double check areas in the location of home. I too wish i had money for every missing person enquiry I have been involved in and it is so often close to home where they are found.

We are friends of Andy and Maureen going back a long way. Havent been in touch for ages and decided had to do something to change that yesterday. Was horrified to hear about Andy.

I shared his picture in my company's Twitter and Facebook account, and we are asking him to our English and Turkish customers. Our staffs knows him and we are so sorry, we hope he returns safe and well to his wife and family.. Pls everyone share his pic. in your twitter and facebook account.

We are devastated by this horrible news.Kath and I lookforward to seeing Andy and Mo everytime we come back from the UK.He is a lovely kind man and Mo must be going crazy.We feel useless here in UK at the moment but our thoughts and hopes are there with all the people from Ozankoy expats as well as the locals, who are trying to find our friend.God bless

Yes - leaflets were handed to them - we got a possible sighting over near deniz kizi - we went over - asked around - but could not find him - but please keep your eyes pealed over that side aswell!

he could be totally disorientated having lost his memory..so if you see anyone who could be andy - please stop and ask him......

I have spoken to Alex and I have made some flyers in English and Turkish with a picture. I will take them all round Alsancak tomorrow and I will be on hand in the afternoon if you need volunteer's to search or anything I can do to help. I work very close to Deniz Kizi so I will keep my eyes peeled. Hope you get him home safe very soon. Keep strong.

So sad yet again that no trace of Andy has been found. Its a long time now for him to be lost and bewildered, but dont lets give up.Well done all over in Cyprus for the support you are giving Mo just wish more we could do from Uk. At least Mo has some excellent friends and with her brother arriving and Andy's sister its good to know she has some family with her as well. Meanwhile we will all keep praying and hoping.

I went in to Niazi's fast food in Kyrenia tonight ( Friday ) and spoke to the manager. He had no idea about Andy being missing. I am taking him a poster tomorrow to put up. In Lefkosa know one seems aware that he is missing. I am mentioning this so that no one assumes that because well all know about Andy being missing, that everyone does. So please where ever you are ASK if they know that a person is missing. Someone somewhere must know something. Our prayers are with you MO and we are keeping it live at BRT. D x

Hi everyone, we are hoping that the Police, Army and Civil defense will be out searching

tomorrow, the fantastic guys from 112 will be searching the rougher terrain around the village.

We won't know for sure what time or how many other volunteers we will need until

the morning, so if we will put a posting on here just after 0930 to let everyone know.

There will be a microlight out searching very early morning, then the army are sending out a helicopter, as long

as the wind holds there will be a motorized paraglider up in the afternoon.

Thank you everyone for their help and support, let's hope tomorrow turns up something!

I wonder how many of the thirteen thousan d plus hits to this thread are people like me who hope they will read' he is found, alive and well'. sorry i can';t join you tomorrow but have a prior engagement. Like many others, I DO hope the search is successful. I am sure Mo is feeling very 'down' at the moment, but I am also sure she knows we are all with her in spirit and hope that helps her to keep going. I did see a poster in Lemar today, - it is just SO amazing that no one has any clue as to his whereabouts. Let's hope and pray for a miracle tomorrow.

Erkin Andys photo is on the front page of the Star and there has been an article in the Turkish Press as one of the earlier postings state, read all the messages and you will see that everything that can be done has been done, but still people are unaware Andy is missing.

I am sorry if it upsets you but I am one of those 13,000 who check this thread reguarly, I have an apartment near Tatlislu and am physically unable to help as I am in UK at the moment if I was over there I would willingly help. There was an SOS for blood in December and I posted that I was coming over on 18 Dec and as a regular "O Neg donor" I would have gone to donate on my arrival. Please do not look upon these viewings as negative I am sure like me they are people that are just checking and do not want to intrude any more on the family's suffering.

I just pray we have a positive outcome and my love to the family that I do not know. xxxx

Please pray for Maureen as she copes with all of this.
