Andrew Strauss and Paul Collingwood batted England into a commanding 247-run lead with two days remaining in the first Test against India in Chennai. Strauss, a centurion in the first innings, was 73 and Collingwood 60 in an unbroken 129 for the fourth wicket. After India had been dismissed for 241 four balls after lunch, England held a lead of 75, but were soon in trouble at 48-3 in their second innings. But they recovered magnificently to reach 172-3 at stumps.

Andrew Strauss was the first Englishman to hit two tons in a Test in Asia as he and Paul Collingwood took England to 244-3 at lunch on day four in Chennai. Their partnership was worth 201, a record for the fourth wicket in Tests at the M.A.Chidambaram stadium. England, who began the day on 172-3, led by 319 and have emerged as strong favourites to win the first Test.

Gautam Gambhir and Sachin Tendulkar led India towards the 200-mark after Andrew Flintoff struck early to remove Rahul Dravid on day five of the first Test. The hosts resumed on 131-1, needing another 256 runs for victory in Chennai, and Flintoff had Dravid (4) caught behind in the third over. But Tendulkar and Gambhir, who soon made passed 50, played watchfully to steady the innings on a wearing pitch. England need eight more wickets to win but India have lots of batting to come.

Sachin Tendulkar crafted his 41st Test century as India stormed to a magnificent six-wicket victory over England in the first Test in Chennai. Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh (85) contributed an unbeaten 163 to the home side's 387-4 - the fourth highest successful run chase in Test history. Oh well it was nice while it lasted.... bugger, bugger, bugger...
