I have recently received a 'flyer' email from Cyprus Star to subscribe to an online subscription for £39. I would like to take this offer up but am very wary in case it is not genuine. Has anyone else received this and can confirm that the email is genuine and not a scam. How did they get my email address?

Thanks in anticipation

Just as a matter of interest - did this come from someone with a hotmail account? There have been loads of scam emails recently from the owners of hotmail accounts, not valid of course. I have had some and I just delete them without opening. Call Linda who deals with add sales at the Star, her number is 05338702570 she should be able to tell you if this is genuine.

I got one and opened it and it was the same as Message 1. The Star last week did have, on it's front page as a small banner, I think that they were now on-line but I am sure Marion on here can confirm. I think it's genuine

Where did you get our email addresses from Linda? I sincerely hope it was not from Cyprus 44. Please do not send me anymore spam emails.

The link above takes me to the front page. When I follow the link to register, it takes me to the subscription page. How do I get the free subscription in the UK?

I should have added. Although my profile says I'm in Kyrenia, I am in the UK at the moment, and will be for some time.

Thanks for all you replies. To Linda (message 6) can you confirm whether Cyprus Star online is free or is there an annual subscription of £39. Also I would like to know here did you get my email address from?

Is the Cyprus Star worth subscribing to for £39 a year? I'd value opinions before I sign up. Is it as good as or better than Cyprus Today?

Hi guys. Yes Cyprus Star is on line. yes it is £39 to subscribe which makes it cheaper than the 3tl to buy and of course you can read it in the comfort of your own home (bit of a cliche that, but true).

I have no idea as to where the e mail came from, and you have info above from Linda of The Star, all of which is true.

However, although in the past you could read last week';s for free, that seems to have been withdrawn. I can't read it for free on line!!!! I will find out for you all, and sorry if there is any confusion.

As to 'is it worth it' - well that is down to the individual, but for all my friends overseas, they can now read what their friend writes in The Star, and if you want to (plus all the other bits) then I would suggest you sign up. Or maybe take a look at a hard copy. As to Ian in U.K - can't answer your question, but will try to findout. Personally I think it is a good offer, but then I am biased!!!!!!

Hector. Only my opinion, but I find cyprus star only a repeat of the midweek Cyprus Today. Good for proofreading experience though and L0TS of pics of people in bars. A total waste of 3tl.

Good morning all

As a suggestion to the Paper

Why not post an open web site address on C44 giving a one off entrance to view the on line edition.

Sampling an unknown product is the only way to win over a new readership, especially with a product where the content and quality will always be variable and the purchase is up front.

I will pass the message on dougskud. However for people living in TRNC the paper can be seen on shelves and one can even get awa ywith a WHSMITH look - (i.e. a quiet read without buying). No good too The Star group, but could help people see whether thhey want to subscribe, but for people in U.K that is more difficult. although I reckon most of them may have taken a look at the old web page. However, will pass on and see what, if anything can be done.

Thanks Linda, great news. It means I can read it online . so glad I read this before closing down and going out into the wild west in the cold to get some more stories for the following week - but people will have to pay for those! Sorry guys. Just hope that some of you think we are, in the immortal words of l'Oreal products "because we;'re worth it'
