Does anybody know the procedure for acquiring a PO Box in the South. We do have a PO Box here, but with the problem of mail delivery here thought if we could walk across the border and access mail it may be an option. Many thanks.

I opened one a few weeks ago at the Post Office at top of Ledra Street.

Need proof of ID (passport) and fill in a form. Paid 35 euros or so (can't remember), but very simple to do.

I have never been over that crossing, I always drive and go across at Metehan, but that is a good idea. After you've walked through, which way do you go?

Mge 5. Just go through crossing and continue straight along Ledra Street. When you get to the end of the street the post office is diagonally opposite you on the left. Easy to find.

YMessage 7

you do not have to reside in the South to have a PO Box.

I am Scottish and living in TRNC and showed my passport as proof of ID.

They filled in a form, took my money and gave me the PO Box. No further questions asked and very simple.

PO Box rental is for 12 months and escires 31st Dec whereby it can be renewed for a further 12 months

Payment can be made from Dec 1st through to end of March.

If it is not paid by end of March, they will change the lock and re sell the PO Box

Very simple process

Just to add something to the above.

In 8 years of obtaining mail in the south, albeit to a private address and not a PO Box (although I am certain there would be no difference) I can say that the mail service is safe, secure and efficient. Letters from UK take typically 7 days or less. I have never had anything, including parcels, Amazon stuff etc, go astray.

I cannot make a comparison with the mail service this side as I have never used it. From what I have read here some folk are satisfied whilst others are not.

All the best,

Sb.

I did try our side first but it was not reliable.

You can, by the way, pay for your PO box in the south on line now.

If you prefer to drive to collect your post, there's a post office quite close to Metehan. Drive down to the coca cola factory traffic lights, turn left and then (I think) first right. By car 5 mins from Metehan.

Are there 2 crossings referred to as Ledra Street?, because I remember about 8 years ago going across, and it was about 5 minute walk and you had to walk up a steep hill, and then turn left, to get to Ledra Street

I've just done a search, and see that there are 2 crossings, 1 Ledra Palace and 1 Ledra Street, so I probably went over the Ledra Palace one, (or whichever is the oldest)so could someone give directions to the Ledra Street crossing please. I am totally confused. I think I may have to stick with the Metahan crossing as I can't walk very far, but on reading the above directions, meryrob thinks it's first on the right, on reading somewhere else, they said 4th or 5th turning on the right.

msg 14's directions are spot on. Having turned right, the PO is about 50 metres along on the right-hand side. Not sure of opening times, but a check on the net will get them.

The ledra street crossing is not very far from the Selimiye mosque in Nicosia. I would recommend crossing by foot at this crossing always as there are always crowds days and night. The other crossing is not very much used today.

Also I would recommend this service buts its based in the UK.

They give you an uk address and scan all your documents online and you can read your post online with secure username and password.

I would strong look into the website as it could save time and hassle.

Head down the road to Kyrenia gate

Turn left just after the Saray Hotel and park in the car park on the left, close to Buyuk Han (some cypriots park next to the mosque but don't want to confuse anyone).

walk past Buyuk Han (on your right whilst heading south) you come to the pedestrianised shopping street which is Arasta sokak You then come to a sort of crossroads. turn left and Ledra street crossing point is in front of you.

The map shows ledra street as street Bahceli Sokak

I realise I am making a huge meal out of this, but could I have easier directions please from the main Gunyeli roundabout. I have no idea where Kyenia gate is, I've never even heard of it. What is Buyuk Han? Sorry to be such a pain, but would really like to go across one day and get a P.O. Box. If i do ever try, I will let everyone know, and if I'm not back in a couple of days, maybe somewone could come looking for me (I'll be driving around Nicosia, hopelessly lost in an old white car)!!!!!!!!!!!!!
