Hi Everybody,

I am an American traveling to Girne. I have found a cheap flight entering into Cyprus via Larnaca airport. My questions are: 1) Am I going to have problems with passport control at Larnaca for having previous visa stamps in my passport from Ercan?

2) After leaving the airport to enter in to North Cyprus will I have trouble entering North Cyprus because I came from the Greek Cypriot airport?

I wanted to ask you guys before I even book my flight tomorrow.

Thanks for your assistance

Hi Madhouse914,

1) You should not have any problem travelling to Larnaca with TRNC stamped in your passport. I have UK Passport and have about 30 TRNC stamped in it, I have had no problems last Dec and 4 times prior.

2) Again, you should not have problem crossing Turkish border because of entering Cyprus from the Greek side, however, you will have ususal immigration controls - but guess if you have been to North before on American passport then there should be no problem. If you are hiring a car from Greek side then you may have probllem as most hire companies in South do not let you drive car to North side. But, there is one I know of and you will need to get separate motor insurance for North - let me know if you need details.

Ah but this chap is not an EU citizen and as far the south is concerned he has previously entered Cyprus via what they term an illegal port of entry. It may well be that he will have a problem.

msg 1;

Entering island via recognised/international port will couse you no problems at all,whatever nationality you are.However,if you are not an EU citizen and enter island via none-recognised port,then crossing to recognised part will.

You are coming via Larnanca?No problem to cross over to north and back again.

Many thanks to everybody for their responses. I have never been to the South side of the island. I have always entered at Ercan from Istanbul and was a little nervous.

Madhouse Dollars about £50.00 he will look after you take you to where you are staying you can trust him, you can hire a decent car in with the deal for around £100.00 a week extra you may have to haggle with him a little.

You probably will not have to get out of the car at the border as he deals with the border police!
