We are organising a United Fun Run on Saturday 7 th April 2012, in aid the two charities, SPOT (protection of Turles) and KUSKOR (protection of Birds / Wildlife). The proceeds will be shared between the two groups to help fund conservation work during 2012.

The location of the fun run will be starting off from Lambousa in Lapta, with a circuit of 5 km and then returning to the finishing point back at Lambousa.

All members of the community are welcome from young children to pensions, whether local or expat, don't be put off by the word RUN. If you want to walk the circuit or part of the circuit that will be allowed, if you want to wear fancy dress that too would be encouraged. The idea is as its name suggests a FUN event to help SPOT / KUSOR with much needed funding but at the same time to involve the younger generation and make them aware of the environment issues, we are faced with here in North Cyprus.

We are at this time looking at sponsorship from local people/ businesses.

together with sponsors from the UK. If you are willing to to sponsor the event, please could you contact us on the email or phone number below.

We will be needing helpers to marshal the event, if you can contact us if you are able to assist we would be very grateful.

If you would like to take part in the run, please could you send an e mail giving your full name and phone number / email address.

The entrance fee will be 15tl per person and sponsor forms will also be provided. If you want to ask any sensible questions we will do our best to answer them.

Our son James and his girlfriend Anoushka are organising this event and will he will be returning from the University in UK during his Easter holidays to take part.

We hope that the United Fun Run will help to increase peoples awareness of these important environmental issues.

Not sure I am fit enough to take part, but will certainly come and watch. Maybe I should get people to sponsor me to stand and watch. or even sponsor me to stay away. But whatever one doe,s I hope folk support this, especially as it isnot always easy to get money for turtles and birds. People like cuddly things like children, cats and dogs, but our flora and fauna are an essential part of who we are. See you there!

and of course, during that morning Tulips will be organising a lot of fun and games to raise money.

Thank you Marion for your support, the environment and many different animals and plants are under threat here in NC. Our biggest problem is bringing these environmental issues to the forefront, so that they can addressed properly. Unfortunately conservation issues are low down on the list of things to here. We can't just leave things be, we need to encourage the younger generation to become more aware of their environment and feel that they want to stand up and volunteer to help preserve the natural beauty we have here, before we are too late.

We want to be able to say that our grandchildren will be able to appreciate the beauty of these creatures and still have them here in years to come.

If you love all things natural, please, please come and support James, Anouska, and all the people involved from both SPOT and KUSKOR.

Good luck I hope this gets supported well, I'll sponsor James and Anouska for a couple of quid. What about an online sponsorship form where expats domiciled here and 'swallows' could make a pledge if they so wished?

Just a thought, is it feasible or are there rules and regs against such an idea?

Really good post, by someone who is obviously switched on! I am going to look into the idea of an online sponsor form. Can anyone enlighten me, moderators, as to if it is possible on the forum?

I bet your one them old school blokes who can hack it all alone and probably live in some far away village miles from anyone who speaks English and loves it!

Hi seadoo, yes the run is a united run . Its will be open for professional runners, joggers, walkers and children. It is a competion run with medals and prizes for the winners of the different sections but overall we want everyone to have a good time whilst helping us to raise funds for SPOT (turtle charity) and Kuskor (bird / wildlife charity.

If you can contact me on pgreen59@hotmail.com so I can get details from you,

We are expecting a good turnout for the run as many people want to help protect the beautiful wildlife of the island.

Thank you for your interest Seadoo.

Anyone else interested can you let me know as we are starting to compile a list of runners.

Please note, there is a Tulip fun day running at the same time at Chateau Lambousa, in aid of Tulips, so it can be a real good fun day out with the kids / grand kids.

There will be no entrance fee for children up to the age of 18 years. An entrance fee of 15tl for adults, all proceeds from the run go to SPOT / KUSKOR

Start time ammendment, Now 11am.

Thank you for your enquiry.

We have had a meeting today with SPOT / KUSKOR and also Tulips / Chateau Lambousa. As the Fun Run is taking place at the same time / location as Chateau Lambousa's Spring Fair, together with Tulip's, we have now decided to start the run at 11am.

Please remember that runners need to be at Chateau Lambousa about an hour before the start of the race.

We are hoping to start a stall at Chateau Lambousa in the next week or so, so that people interested can register for the race, pay their entrance fee and been given details of the event.

You can contact me on 0533 8630425 or via e mail on pgreen59@hotmail.com. Sponsor forms are now available and can be sent via e mail. We will also be arranging for sponsor forms to be available at certain points, so that interested parties can collect a form.

If you can pass the word on to all your friends, particularly those who enjoy a run, that would be great.

Today you can come along to Chateau Lambousa market and register for the fun run.

Ayse, Rachael and Tricia will be there to book people in for the run, to make things easier on the day of the run. The stall is located on the right side of the arched main doors on the North side of the building. Remember all children of school age are free but are encouraged to try to raise funds on a sponsor form. Adult entries are 15tl. All funds to be split by Kuskor and Spot.

See you there. There are some lovely prizes donated by local businesses for the race winners of each category.

The stall will be there every week until the race! tel 0533 8630425

There will be 6 catogories in the Fun Run, each group will have its own winners / prizes / medals.

The children are divided into 3 groups:-

Under 8's

under 13's

14-18's

walker / joggers

runners

professional runners

The pro's won't be competing with the children. Children and adults can run or walk to their abilities, the course will be marshaled.

Pro's include registered running clubs, who compete regularly in similar events. So come along and enter the adults walker / jogger group and maybe you can win one of the prizes.

Good luck and don't worry!

If youn want to run then do so, or walk the course if you wany, its a Fun Run for everyone to enjoy and help KUSKOR / SPOT with much needed funding.

How many do you want in fancy dress? Didn't I read that somewhere? Come in Fancy Dress? If so, will there be prizes for the best one? I am happy to come dressed as a clown but I don't want to make a total idiot of myself unless there are other idiots too!

So tell me if I got it wrong, or whether we should be enccouraging people to put more emphasis on the fun! It is a holiday week-end, after all (well, for the Brits itt is_

James did suggest that people turn up in fancy dress, I do not know if anyone intends to do this but you would be very welcome to turn up dressed as a clown. The more in facy dress the merrier!

Come on folks, come and register for the FUN RUN at Chateau Lambousa this Saturday and every saturday up until the day of the Run on 7th April 2012.
