Apparently not, (although I did when I first came here). You can't get your Kimlik until you have been married for 3 years....Thats why I did it.

The Police did question me as to why I was doing it, but they still did it anyway and took my money !!

If a English male marries a T/C female and comes to N Cyprus, he will be given a 90 day visa at the port of entry to the TRNC. When this 90 day visa is due to expire he should then start the procedure to apply for a one year visa.

This visa needs to be renewed annually, if you let it expire you will be fined every day that you overstay your visa expiry date, This is technically how it works but in practice things are slightly different.

If you apply to become a citizen (after 3 years, stated in a previous post), you then have to do national service which is at present 15 months. You may be able to pay a lump sum of money and only do one month in the army. There are different factors which affect this, but everyone you speak to here will tell you a slightly different story.

Lionel,

that was the case 7 years ago......things here have a habit of changing . I would check it out with the British High Commission first, don't take my word for it.

Lionel yes visa = residency permit, so you must do all tests etc.

However when the 1 year of married is passed, you can apply for KKTC citizenship (if u are married to TC).

I did this last year (i got married in 2010), and I was told I will get citizenship very soon - I hope until march this year. My papers are waiting in queue at the moment.
