| Thank you for the timely reminder regarding portable heaters. Just a couple of points. Testing for gas problems with a lighter is not recommended. It is CO that is produced by the burning of gas, paraffin etc, not CO2. I bought good quality CO and gas detectors over from the UK and I would think they are essential. Read the instructions as to where to place them, as some gas is heavier than air and some lighter. |

| Lilli, Testing it with a lighter was potentially the most daft thing he could have done... LPG is heavier than air and does not disperse like natural gas gas would... instead it pools and forms a lethal explosive reservoir.... the fact that you were sick and faint etc. leads me to believe the fire had been buring off the gas albeit not properly but if you suspect a leaking valve do no under circumstances use a lighter... you both could have been blown to pieces.. That's why LPG gas use on boats is so dangerous... nowhere for the gas to go. If you can smell the gas you have leak and should take the appliance outside and disconnect all the parts and resassemble and checks the seal again.. not with a lighter! |
