Please help us find Patch. - we need to find her URGENTLY. She is brown & white collie cross. Last seen on Sunday or Monday 29th or 30th Jan. She lives as a tagged community dog in Dr Ali Ozoy Sokak Catalkoy. This is just off the main Girne/Catalkoy road - not far from Cratos and just opposite the Dolce Vita Restaurant. She has lived there for the last 3 years (after being abandoned by previous owners). She has never disappeared from her home "street" before. The bad storm we had on Monday night may have spooked her.

She is wearing a brown leather collar, a white paraband collar and has a red KAR ear tag. She also has quite pink/sore looking eyes for which she is currently having daily treatment.

Patch(aka Poppy) is due to travel to UK very soon to be with her new "forever" family.

I think I saw her today on the road by the petrol station on the way to Bellapais, the dog I saw definitely had a brown collar and red ear tag and was a white/brown collie cross. Can confirm if you post a photo.

Obviously i got the top one wrong - sorry. The others are ok though. Please take a look to see if you know where she is.

It has been suggested that maybe someone moved her out of her area so that she wouldn't be able to go to UK - Surely no-one would do that would they !!!

If she has been moved then she could be anywhere.

Please look at the photos - also it may help if people could check any outbuildings. sheds etc just in case she went in scared from the storm and has accidently got shut in.

Can't be 100% certain but I'm pretty sure it was her this morning, the dog I saw this morning had the same eye-patch, she just seemed to be hanging around by the petrol station there. You might want to ask at the petrol station, they'll be able to tell you for certain. She didn't seem lost, just seemed to be "out walking" like a lot of tagged dogs in the area..

Good idea Lilli - not sure how we go about asking Izzet - so i am shouting - Please keep this at the top.

Even if she doesn't make her journey to UK we all just want to know what has happened to her - its the not knowing that is so difficult as well. Just hope that she is not in pain somewhere.

Is it a coincidence that she has disappeared just when she was to be sent back to UK? As she is a community dog, is there someone in that "circle" that doesn't want her to be sent to UK? Just a thought that crossed my mind.

I will look out for this dog when I am out and if I do see her then I will try and get her in the car and return her to where she belongs. She is so close to being looked after forever it would be such a shame if she were lost forever.

I spent an hour driving round the area where you said you lived praying Patch would be around but no. Funny enough there were lots of stray tagged dogs around a few weeks ago but now there are none.



PS Does anyone know what happened to that lovely big brown and beige dog that was outside Lemar for months, then windows cafe and for the last month nowhere to be seen.

Periwinkle, if you mean the Tag dog that blinks a lot as he has an eye problem at the moment and sometimes a limp ( also going to be cured by the proffessor coming over from Turkey), called Otto by some, he is at the KAR Rescue centre having treatment and keeping safe as he is also lucky enough to have a new home to go to in England. He is doing well and made some new friends at the Centre, as soon as he is fully well he will be travelling to his new home and family for a better life and probably a bed by a radiator to himself too. In fact we have a few Tag dogs back at the centre for various reasons ie skin complaint, poorly leg etc but hopefully they will soon be back in their community homes and enjoying their freedom again. Hope this answers your question. Please everybody keep looking for Patch it would be such a shame for her to miss out.

She is very nervous of men (especially those with dark hair !!) and brooms - and hosepipes !!! She likes other dogs and cats and she is quite tubby (38kg) - well she was when she had Sunday lunch with us last week !!



On behalf of Aimee, Martyn and the children (her UK family) i would like to thank everyone for their help - i know we haven't had the result we wanted but it has been so nice that so many members have found the time and kindness to help. It is especially nice that for once we have not had the negative remarks that often make their way onto threads - Thank you cypruss44 members.

Even though she has missed her trip we still want to know what has happened to her even if it is bad news - please keep looking.

The sad thing is she is all ready to go - everything is done. But the overland trips are all booked up to October now and she is, frankly, at 38kg too blummin heavy to fly. They have been waiting since September for her to be able to go - so near yet so far !

I still feel that she will turn up, well I pray she does. When we moved last year one of mine went missing for 8 days, we searched ravines everywhere. The little madame had taken herself to a beautiful big house about 2 miles away and took a fancy to an MGB car, there she stayed. Once we got her back she would still disapear up there to that car. I am praying so hard as this trip for her is so near.

Lilli - all the turkish people round here have been asked but none have seen her ince lat w/end. She wouldn't go near any Turkish looking men - she didn't like them.

I too have thought maybe she is with someone who doesn't read 44 - so can as many members as possible look in their neighbours gardens or ask their neighbours or empty buildings .

Running out of ideas now - just wish she would get her fat bum back here to sit in her favourite place on the wall.

Hi All,

We are going to be Patch's new family in the Uk and so desperately want to know where she is and what has happened to her. Just to know she's safe would be a comfort. I know she has now missed her chance this time, but we are not giving up and will wait until there is a time. Please please carry on looking for her, I have two young boys ages 3 and 4 who keep asking when she's going to be here in the Uk. I can't bring myself to tell them she is missing. hi Shal how weird finding you on here. We just can't believe she was so close to coming to the Uk. Our other dog is keeping her bed warm under the radiator in hope that one day she gets here. It's so hard waiting in the Uk, not being able to help look for her. And waiting for any news, I am constantly sitting by the phone, every time it beeps I prey it is good news!

If Patch was last seen 29th Jan and not seen since for 8 days, I doubt he will be seen in the "street" home or thereabouts again. There are two possibilities, and being optimistic (rather than upseting anyone), he has probably found another street where there is a restaurant or a butcher and he is being fed well. The other possibility I rather not think about - but either way, I am not so sure you will find patch wandering the streets of Kyrenia... We'll keep a lookout though.

Just a thought,but,with thousands of homeless dogs in the UK why on earth would anyone want to subject a street dog, that is used to roaming free, to a long,long road journey with all the trauma that would involve.Just a suggestion,but wouldn`t it be better to adopt a dog in the UK?

She was once owned and then just left, so she was used to a family. We fell in love with her a few years back on our first trip to Cyprus and she doesn't leave our side the whole time we are there. All she wants is love and attention, which we are willing to give her in our family home.. We have gone to a lot of effort in getting her back to the Uk which wouldn't have been a terrible time as she would have had human company the whole way here. We didn't rescue a dog in the Uk as we love her and grew attached to her, she is also brilliant with our children.

Patch was not always a street dog - she had a family of her own, very close to where she has lived for the last 3 years, and another canine buddy. Her family left her and her buddy tied in their garden when they apparently returned to the UK ! Sadly her buddy was killed on the main road.

She doesn't roam -which is why we are so shocked that she has gone - she lives in a cul de sac and hasn't moved from here in the last 3 years. She loves people and just being with them. She just doesn' have any people of her very own. She is approx 4.5 years old and is gentle and very well behaved. She adores being in the car and is very well trained on the lead. All in all we refer to her as a street dog because she lives in our street - maybe a better description would be that she is an "ex-pet" !!!



We have just returned from a possible sighting at Karakum but couldn't find the dog that was seen. Thank you for keep looking and we will follow up every sighting in the hope that it is her.

Check up the track behind the Sea vistas site in catalkoy, a farmer cruelly keeps dogs tied up there behind a load of bales of hay, he starves them to death and then replaces them quickly with others which i bet he just takes off the streets, you never know worth a look, it not to far up the track his place is by the first electric pylon up there you cannot miss it. Don`t know sea vista as I live in karsiyaka, but please please can someone go where Mambosun is telling you tomorrow. I dont know when the overland transporter is due to leave, but maybe this lead could be patch`s last chance for a new life and it`s quite feasible that she could be there please god.

Woodspeckie - we made a dash down to the harbour on Saturday following a call about those dogs and one that matched her description - but it wasn't Patch. Have checked the ones near the New Harbour - not there either.

Will try and find the Sea Vista farmers site - but she wouldn't go anywhere near a strange Turkish man (she really dislikes them so something bad must have happened to her at some time judging by her reaction) so i doubt he would be able to entice her away. Anything/anywhere is worth a look.

I have seen her photo on the forum but have not noticed it in any supermarketts like Supreme or Tempo, vets. restauırants etc. My cat went mıssıng and not everyone reads the forum. I was lucky as a lady saw her photo displayed. Get as many pıctures out as possible. I drıve to work passıng Cratos every day and on the way home though Ozankoy vıllage and constantly look out for her. Keep searchıng and fıngers crossed she ıs safe and well.

Have you gone to check out KAR maybe someone took Patch there and they dont realise. The tag ear doesnt always guarantee checks.

Her photo is in all the vets - it is in Supreme, Lambousa, Supermarket beg, Rescue Centre, and other places. KAR staff all know Patch is missing and what she looks like.

There have been 2 possible sightings recently - by the time we got there we couldn't see the dog.

Yesterday a possible sighting was behind Upper Crust Bakery Karakum. The dog went up the road which comes out by Altinkya. We drove around for ages - typical when you are looking for a dog you can never see one ! But we had followed up a sighting last week byt he Bellepais Rd petrol station - similar dog but not Patch. The one in Karakum may be that same one as the road comes out in similar area.

This morning a lady (who had seen the posters) called the KAR office - she thought she had seen her on the main Girne road going down towards town - just by the Government Vet Dept - she was with a black and white Cyprus Terrier. Again we couldn't see them - could be the same wrong dog sighting as on Saturday. Where is she ???

have you asked neibours? and people around where you live they might have taken her in but they dont know she has a home and they are waiting for somebody to come and collect her plus somebody might have taken her up to KAR???

I saw the spit of this dog this morning but being walked by a blond woman (English looking) in the town centre. I am sure she is probably just a twin of your dog but was just like the picture you have put on. She went into an apartment which I believe used to have some sort of office for KAR or might have been one of their workers living there. There is also a doctors sign post in front of the block. The block is located in the street behind the Watermill Hotel. I am sure this is probably just the genuine owner but dog is just like your picture.

I took 3 of them when they were aging, one was a show dog she had worked so hard she had heart problems and we found her dead one morning we had her for three years, one was 8 I took her from someone who was emigrating had her for about four years, one we had from a pup had her for about 12 years she died in tragic circumstances too upset to relate what happened, then the last one belonged to my Son he was with us until last November he was 15 the Arthritis in his legs was so bad we had to have him put to sleep. So when I saw the picture of Patch I prayed for her return.

gelin70 - well spotted. That was Patch being walked near the KAR office - she was in the office being checked over and needed a "comfort" break.

It is so good to know that so many of you have cared about what has happened to Patch and, has already been said, that there has been such a positive helpful response from the forum members.

I am absolutely thrilled to hear that Patch has been found. I cycle around Ozankoy and Catalkoy on a daily basis and have kept an eye out for her.

eagleyemonkey - the new paperwork, to include Patch, has just been approved - Patch has NOT missed her chance. She is going with the others to the UK on the first overland trip. They will all be donning their winter wollies as they prepare for a new life in Blighty. Mind you they are becoming acclimatised to UK weather just by being here recently ---bbbbrrrr !

gracey. We have decided not to have any dogs of our own we are now 74, we do borrow two field spaniels from next door, we walk them every afternoon while the owners are out at work, they are left in the garden all the time with a big kennel for shelter but we feel so sorry for them they are really good dogs and need plenty of exercise, when the owners go on holiday we look after them full time I enjoy that time with them and they enjoy it too.

Well I did wonder if it was Patch or if not it was defo a twin. I had a car behind me so I could not stop but I did turn around but by that time, she had disappeared inside. Thank god she was found, I have a dog of my own who was rescued in the UK and we brought her with us, she is now nearly 17. We would be distraught if we lost her so I know how they must have felt. We are so pleased And just over the moon Patch has been found safe and sound



I would like to thank everyone for their help support, the response has been fantastic. Patch will now get to her new home in the Uk with us. I will be taking lots of photo's of her and her new life here and of course share some of those with you.
