Please let me know what your experience is with various hot water systems in North Cyprus.

The more figure you have the better. Installation costs, running costs, how much hot water ect..

Thanks for your input!

We had a gas water heater installed in October, best improvement we've made so far. Total cost of heater, including casing(its on an outside wall),all fittings and labour was 900tl.

Instant hot water throughout the house,no waiting for immersion heater to heat one tankful and runs of the 36tl calor gas bottle, there are three of us in house and we have to replace bottle roughly every six weeks.

post 2 - interesting but do you have to have elec' to work the system also? We have gas heating throughout but still need elec' for it to work.

If no elec' no hot water - only surmising

no electricity needed, the ignition is triggered by battery, two of the big fat ones,we were advised to always keep spare batteries on hand, cos what is worse than halfway through rinsing shampoo out and the water goes icy??? We have not needed to replace them yet.During the power cuts hubby by passed the water pump and fed directly from mains tap,so we still hhad constant hot water.

Talk with Serhat or Celal at the Yappi trading shop opposite Starlings on the main Alsancak road approaching Lapta on 05338689915. Always very helpful.

jenfarrell.

I paid 900 t.l. as well from the shop opposite DenizPlaza down the side road. He said Id need electric to work the pump to ensure the water is strong to keep the gas alight !!!!

Anyway I learnt that downstairs I dont need the pump on, the water comes through strong and thus hot via gas (so might have shower installed). Upstairs I do need the pump on.

So you say the batteries ignite the gas, but its the electric you need for the pump if the water is not strong enough. So you are saying your water is strong both upstairs and down.

Thus different houses different systems may need electric pump

And another question which is driving me round the bend. Ive gone through 2 gas bottles since the installation ie 1 gas bottle same size as yours per month. Just me in the house. I shower at the gym, thus just use it for basin and sink washes. Man at the shop said 1 month normal. Have had it checked for a leak ok.

My friend has same system and he is adament his bottle lasts for 2 to 3 months and he showers everyday!!! I know you cant give me a reason but just thought Id post this.

Do you have to mix much cold water with the hot when having a shower?

Because if you do, you may have the setting a bit high?

No not mixing lots of cold water.

Someone said depending on the weather, you need to change the dials. Whats the weather got to do with a gas system?

well the colder the weather the colder the water gets I imagine, but still, the temperature setting should be constant. So no need for changing is my guess!

I had a gas boiler fitted about 7 weeks ago. The best thing I've ever done! I paid 700tl for it and that included fitting. bottle of gas lasted 5 weeks but I changed it before it was completely empty cos I didn't want it running out in the middle of a shower. I then used the bottle on a gas fire for a week (same bottle). I have contact details for the person who supplied and fitted it if anyone is interested.

Our boiler was purchased from the Yapi market in Lapta,in same parade of shops as the post office.

Babrew< We live in a bungalow,so obviously there lies the answer to why our pressure is good through whole of house .

Can't answer your question as to why your gas usage is so high, our heater is set to winter temperature and the water is hot enough for baths as well as showers. One thing we have discovered, when bottle appears to have run out there is still gas in there, just not enough to power the heater, but enough for probably a weeks cooking.

Can you letme know what model your gas boiler is. Just checked my booklet and realised its probably rubbish as just writing ROSE and the manual has no identification or model name on it.

PS Yes I understand one should use the gas bottle on another something as its not totally empty.

Our gas totally ran out and have just had delivery today. However, boiler won't light now and can't find an ignition switch. Message on panel says E08???? Anyone either have a suggestion for what we can try or have contact details for a heating engineer?

laptagal,

One person inside, one person outside. Inside turn on the hot water. Outside listen for clicking (that is the ignition working), if no clicking then either you have the unit switched off (small rocker switch normally on left hand bottom of boiler (use a torch to find it - NOT A MATCH PLEASE!) and make sure it is on. If on and still no clicking then change the batteries (normally two big ones, used to be "D" now I think they are "A", back one is positive down and front one is positive up), try again. If clicking then you probably have no gas going through the unit - check your regulator first.

If clicking but not lighting then have a fiddle with the two knobs on the front and turn up the temp and flame - should light but then you have to fiddle - trial and error - to get the temp right for you and the boiler to stay lit constant when water going through.

Had one of these for three years now and would never be without it - regardless of the "fiddling" needed!!

HotSpot automatic. Yes mine too, thats what is printed on the boiler box and a telephone service number. However the boiler and manual itself doesnt say what company has made it, so it must be from china.

ibond

Ok that may be the problem, going to get a new regulator.

Waddo. Message 25.

You seem to know about this system. Would the installation of the gas system affect the temperature of the water from the solarpanels.

If the boiler is fed from a cold water supply, either mains or from a tank via a pump, then it will have to work harder and use more gas to heat the water to say 50 degrees...

If it is fed from your hot tank on the roof then it will be able to raise the water temp to the required heat more easily. Even at this time of year the solar panels can fill your tank with warm water, too cold on it's own maybe but very easily heated to 50 degrees and uses a lot less gas in the process.

Worth checking if your boiler is connected this way for future bills....

As per msg 34 - dead right. I fed my first one from the cold supply, what a pratt! Changed it over to feed from the hot supply and only used half the gas after that. I have the Hot Spot boiler this time and it is not as good as the other make D something or other from Turkey but I am on a tight budget so went for the one that was 100TL cheaper - I think I will live to regret it in a couple of years time but it has worked fine these last two winters.

I got mine and the outer case it needs from Coban on the main road out toward Catalkoy - it had a minor fault and they took it back and fixed it for no charge at all. Recommend them anytime. I also used push fit plastic pipe work to connect it up with and got that from Canger (for no other reason than they let me lay out all the bits I wanted on the floor and play with them till I got the design right) and they were most helpful as well.

Easy to fit once you have your plan laid out correctly!
