This was a big issue earlier on this year as the police started to fine people for not having them so everyone rushed out and bought them. I'm sure it then transpired that you only needed a fire extinguisher in a commercial vehicle. Then it all went quiet so interesting to hear it coming up again.

When my car had it's first MOT in September I had all the stuff required i.e Triangle, First aid Kit and Fire extinguisher but I kid you not the guy actually walked round the car and counted the WHEELS to make sure I had four!!!!!! It took about 20 seconds to get the MOT and I was away. Ludicrous A friend of mine, a T.C., was told to go wash his car after which he would be given his MOT . No checks on anything working properly, just clean it!!!!!!!!!!

Rose what kind of car is it? I would never have a fire extinguisher in a car voluntarily, they turn into a lethal projectile in the event of a head-on collision and no mounting will hold it down... Also, instead of getting clear people may be tempted to tackle a potentially explosive situation when they ought to be running away....

The other issue Groucho is you need at least 2 different types of extinguisher in a car to safely fight any fire. Friend who was a H&S specialist said to carry one here is crazy. That is why I thought the thing had stopped.
