As I had half my garden in my pool and it went green, still is but clearing slowly, I had to buy some chemicals so thought I would share the cost info and ask if others have any comparison say from SIBA or TOP CLEAN.

I bought mine from Offsetsan Ltd in Lefkosa, although after the first order they do deliver to the Girne area on a Wednesday.

90% Granular chlorine €55

200GR Chlorine tablets €65.50

Algaecide 5kg €13

Algaecide 20kg€39.48

Liquid Floculant 5kg €10kg ......20kg €27.50

PH Down ( Sodium Bisulphate ) 25kg €17

Liquid acid 20kg €10

They did not have any PH up ( Sodium Bicarbonate ) So if any one has a price for this would be interested.

Hasten to add I didn`t buy all of the above , just for info.

Offsetsan Ltd contact numbers are : 039222405 10-20-30 .............mob : 05338514046

e.mail : offsetsan@superonlin.com

As with most places they quote in Euro but convert to TL when paying.

Hasten to add I use a FLOATRON which reduces greatly the amount of chlorine needed for a healthy pool.

Have not actually broke it down to a monthly rate but with a floatron you use less chlorine for a start and I use tablet form, slow release, and from prices above am still on the same tub of tablets, and PH DOWN , am just getting to the end of one bag bought last summer.

Ok I had to buy flock, as the rain swept mud into my pool, but that was €10.

I had actually got the balance right when the heavens deemed to flood my pool.

So the main cost is the man power of hoovering and sweeping etc

I am Interested in learning how to maintain my pool-is there anywhere I can get lessons?

Or are there any books or good internet resources to help a beginner?

How does this compare with the charges a company would now charge? For example how much does a pool company charge for a 10 x 5 pool and an 8 x 4 pool. ( I was paying £65 pcm 3 years ago for a 10 x 5 )

Check out floatron.co.uk and it will explain all. Basically it is a solar powered water purifier that ionises the water , which means you don`t need as much chlorine.

Chlorine tablets are slow release so you have a constant supply rather than loose/ granules which are released straight away and dissipate quicker. Ideal if you have to shock your pool.

But I`m sure others who have been maintaining their pools longer will be able to give a fuller account.

The above is my understanding of it though, rightly or wrongly.

Pooltech charge me £55 per calender month to maintain my 8x4 pool and i would not consider using any other company or doing it myself .

And it is a chlorine free pool.
