Perhaps Britain should offer the aid to Pakistan...that should put the "Cat among the pigeons".

Deniz ''It should be given to uk residents who really need help.'' Not a popular view in this forum ,where unemployed, disabled, single mothers trying to work , and any other disadvantaged ,are generally termed ''scroungers''.

India, like lots of other countries does not allow the wealth to trickle down to the poorest in society, so this aid is still needed. They should be ashamed who live in luxury whilst others are trying to exist on less than a dollar a day. This is certainly not a western sickness, it is the same all over the world. Why?

Excellent news, would be nice to see the money spend on the UK Anglo Saxon/ Norman elderly who have worked and contributed all their lives only to be treated as second class citizen whilst illegals claim all and sundry. No pay, in no pay out as far as I am concerned, and as for helping the starving masses, whilst their own ministers ride round in 600 mercs' .......... get their own house in order first. And for anyone that 'really' believes in helping the starving in India, get your but on a plane, with all your savings, and do something ............. if you 'really' believe in it.

The Sunday Times has pointed out that India has just turned down the UK £13bn bid to supply them with the Eurofighter Typhoon (as well as the US) , in favour of the much inferior French Rafale. It seems there is the whiff of backhanders and the offer to trade French nuclear technology and equipment (despite a ban on supplying it to India). Nothing new there then. Meanwhile President Sarkozy spends £10,000 a day on food and drink and has 121 cars parked in his garage under the Elysee Palace.

india dont want our aid.well maybe they can give some back then now they are on the up.where does the money come from when most people in gb are down to bare minimum.the goverment say they must keep things tight by robbing oaps and the disabled to give millions to foreign countries has hand outs. they find that money.mr mitchell the mp for foreign aid distribution used to be our mp but didnt even live in our county. he did nothing for us just got us into debt and raised taxes got voted out then sucked up to cammeron to get his latest top job. we all need to think hard next time round when voteing people. just my opinion.

msg 11 ................get your daughter to take her job seekers allowance. i used to work with asylum seekers in regards of benefits, every one of them claimed to be a victim of torture so they could claim the maximum in benefits...................we accepted this as true although common sense says it is not possible that everyone could be one. the amounts we paid out were staggering, the money they got was more than i received in pay. as a Uk citizen your daughter has paid into the system and deserves its help at a time of crisis in her life

And they say that the British are racist ? The class system in India is among the worst in the world. I am all for helping those who try to help themselves but am totally against those who beg when they could find meaningful jobs. There are MANY fantastically rich people in India, it's such a pity that THEY don't do anything to help their own poor. Gerry

Message15 - many rich in the uk do nothing to help their poor!! Don't point the finger at other countries when our wealthy are some of the greediest and most corrupt anywhere. And where exactly are all these "meaningful" jobs you and others keep on about?

bertieboss, are you suggesting that many of the so called "poor" are "NOT ABLE TO WORK?" Some maybe, but many are "lead swingers", scroungers and spongers from society who are well capable of contributing to earn a living, but refuse to do so because they are lazy and have got used to getting handouts at little or no effort on their part! On what do you base your assumption that " our wealthy are some of the greediest and corrupt anywhere" ? And even if they were so, what has that got to do with "Rich Indians" not assisting their own people ? As for the meaningful jobs available, just look in the jobs available columns in the national press. Don't tell me there are none!? Gerry

I worked for Government funded disabled centre, designed to give disabled people training in office/computing skills in order to enter the workplace and earn a living. It was very successful. We had nurses/drivers/labourers etc who had back and other injuries and could not carry on with their occupation - we re-trained them and found them employment. One deformed young girl who had no confidence whatever and only 5 stumps as fingers wanted to touch type. We developed a system for her and she got up to 42 words per minute. When I showed her someone (with 10 fingers) typing with 2 fingers, she said 'I can type twice as fast as him with my 5 stumps' that is often the spirit of real disabled person. She did it, and she now works in a public library dealing with the public every day. REAL disabled want to work and be like everyone else. There were scroungers on the scheme-they did not want to work nor go into the workplace they were not disabled but con-artists freeloading!!!!!

I think the aid should goto the TRNC. The UK government doesn't have to recognise the state but it can claim to be helping an under developed country raise its living standards to reach a level that is more consistant with 21st century living.

Tim have you forgotten the millions of Euros that have been poured into the TRNC by the EU. Eg The repaving of the oneway system and pavements. What did some of the apprceiative locals do ? Used the pavements as a car park. No I say Britain should look after their own first.

Message 11, please get your daughter to sign on if only to get her National Insurance credits which count towards entitlement to a state pension. It can also cause headaches with HMRC if you don't sign on as as they will want to know what she has been doing since losing her job. Someone I know has just received an estimated tax bill for £13000 because he didn't sign on and it has been a real headache for him to sort out.
