The costs will be the cost of leaving Cyprus every so often...

Could be every 90 days could be every week depending on the whim of the immigration bods. You could try border-dipping to the south but that's not sure-fire and a man with a family should not risk it.

Then in a year or so's time you won't get a TRNC driving licence and you may not get insurance without a TRNC driver's licence.

You save up front on the annual renewal costs but in the end... the possible hassle is not worth it unless you know for certain you plan to leave the island on a regular basis every three months minimum

Insurance is fine with a British driving licence. Go for it Racoonchic as Temp Residency is now a farce.

Im short of money due to my car service and tax due at the same time as my residency renewal and digi box replacement I decided to postpone renewal of residency. Since reading all the posts about unhygienic medical hospitals and that you cant choose your own lab Im happy I didnt do it.

So on the day my residency expired I crossed Ledra Palace, returned 4pm they said no cant stamp your paper you must drive back at 5 to midnight and come back after midnight. I am a lady on my own and was not happy to drive at that time of the night. I then drove to Metahan, parked, walked over, walked round and the man said oh your residency expires today do you want a stamp....i said ok whatever......I got a 90 day stamp. Obviously different border different rules.

Not completely correct.

The imigration system picks up duplicate names, and DOB is then a sure fire check.

I once re-entered on my new passport with the '1 year visitor' visa (you do not get a 'resident' visa) and didn't hand over the old passport with the visa.

The imigration guy looked up and asked if I had ever been to NC before. He knew full well I had.

Interesting side note though, went over at the Bostanci crossing recently, and the sign for the crossing now clearly says 'border' gate.

Reading between the lines, it could well be an actual 'border' very soon.

Now, where is Marky Mark when you need him!

Racoonchic, I don't think it is worth it if you are going to stay here - have to sell your car first before you leave anyway - and we are staying till kicked out. Have put a lot of thought into it regarding costs and hassle factors etc but in the end we will carry on with the temp resident (1 year visitor) thing. We both figure that if they can't get you one way then they will change a law and catch you by another means - so will put up with the hassle of renewal and the stupid blood test system - till it changes again tomorrow.........................
