No, didn't know I needed a frame - just thinking of taking it up as a hobby but haven't a clue how to go about it.

I did Durham Quilting, but had to leave my frame behind. May see if I can get one made, unless anyone has one to sell, or knows how to make one.

The frames are for hand sized items such as cushions and small items i.e. clothing.

Large frames can be used for quilting bedding.

In the north east of England they were also used for making 'clippie' mats from old fabric.

My quilting friend used to go to a group at Karsiaka when she lived here. It's at the bar near the turn off to the olive oil mill past Tolga's. The bar that relocated from Lapta but the name escapes me. Think they meet on a Tuesday afternoon.

That's right you use a proggie (tool) to push the cloth through the sacking.

the cloth is clipped into small pieces and in the north east they are referred to as clippie mats.

The also did very large ones which were used on the bed to (good blanket that!!!)

As can be seen at Beamish Museum (Beamish, Chester le Street) Co Durham.

you can also see great examples of Durham quilting there.

Durham Quilting is done on satin. I could imagine it being very popular with TC's

However, the technique is the same as other forms of quilting as performed by my Sister, she also did mexican and american quilting in addition to the old style UK type.

Also quilting can be very effective with applique.
