Would anyone of you recomend heating in our new house being built or will AC be suffucuent? i know AC is ok, but i can also install airscource underfloor heating, which will also heat my water, although solar is 'free' heating, does it heat year round on demand?, how often is the immerson heater switched on on an average house in Cyprus? In the UK its going to be big, but over in sunny Cyprus is there a need? Cheers

Blinky, The one place you really miss heating is in the bathroom in winter here... whatever you decide make sure some form of heating is in the bathrooms.. otherwise no matter how lovely and warm your shower is, it's going to cold and clammy when you get out... Here Central Heating is often installed leaving out the bathrooms for some inexplicable reason... In the coldest weather you will get warm water at best from the normal solar panels but there are high performance ones to be had... depends on your budget but worth it in the long run. I'm thinking of having additional solar panels added so that we have some facing the three quarters E, S and W of the sun's path across the sky... not sure how this will work but it sounds like a plan.. if anyone knows whether this is a good idea or a bad idea I'd like to know...

your solar panels seems an expensive way, but technology has changed somewhat you would require solar tubes instead of flat plate panels The solar vacuum tubes are very efficient and if specified correctly can produce upto 80% of you hot water then your immersion or boiler will heat the rest. Just light is required, not following the sun like conventional panels, so on cloudy day, you still get 100% out of the panel, so theres no need for your idea of following the sun. there may be even more technology out there one of you guys might know about something else.

Blinky When we built 10 years ago Central Heating was unheard of here. We added it 3 years ago and one of the best decisions we made. It gets surprisingly cold at night here and due to the typ of construction your house cools down very quickly after the sun has gone down. Well worth the investment for the comfort Ours is gas powered and heats the water almost instantly so immersion heater disconnected.During the winter you will struggle to get really hot water purely from Solar panels as it cools rapidly at night

There are now high efficiency solar panel domestic water heaters combined with an air-to-water heat pump. The heat pump is controlled by a time clock and thermostat and if heated water is required and the solar output side is not adequate the heat pump cuts in and raises the water temp to the set point. Heat pumps are much more energy efficient than immersion heaters. These systems could be fitted from new or retro-fitted. If anyone is interested in importing these in quantity, please contact me.

TRNCVaughan i am about to import Air-scource to UK from China for my company, i can get hold of what you want, i have dona quite a bit of homework on these, would there be a market in TRNC??, i'm sure there would be. i will send you some information. With the new technology of heatpumps there are loads of different types of heating / cooling. The refrigeration compressors are more efficient you are correct, with a COP of approx 4 so that basically means for every 1kw of power input, you get 4Kw output. there is nothing on the market other than 'free' energy (wind & solar) more efficient. if you are interested i see you have a pool company, again i could supply you with what you require. would be good to have a chat when i come over and discuss things pal. cheers

Hi Blinky, I have sent you an e-mail. TRNC is desperate for new technology space heating/cooling and domestic hot water, especially now with KibTek charging so much for power. Folks here do see the sense in lower running costs but it's the higher capital cost they can't swallow.
