Hi,ive just rented a villa with the above 3 stage sanitation system,i have 2 ground floor on suite bedrooms, the trouble ive got is the horrendous smell from both on suites, the sinks and bath and shower "LOOK " to have the normal s bend traps fitted, although the waste water in the sinks simply slides into a pipe installed in the wall,my question is this a common problem in the trnc,I know the smell is travelling back from the sanitation silo's how do i remove this smell ??,and better still, who can solve it,cheers (i want to tell landlord whats wrong, not vice versa)

Try sealastic around the base of the toilet pans,The builders sometimes forget to fit the seal under the pan.It worked for me.

timaloy, all items ie sinks, baths, showers must be fitted with a water seal or trap ( s or p bend ' to stop smells coming into the house from the drainage system. I have seen lots of instances where no trap has been fitted or made by use of the flexable waste pipes they use here. It is not a big job to fit a proper seal even if you have to modify the pipework inside to enable a trap to be fitted. Also make sure that if you have a floor drain in any bathroom/ utility room, that every week or so you make sure that you put water down to reseal the trap.

Does the bathroom have a drain hole in the floor? If it does these will need to be topped up wth water to stop the smell, or tile over them!

Our neighbour has this problem frequently, they jet wash into the outlet pipe, this takes away the smell short term, however the smell returns back, they have not found a solution just the jet wash process, as a short term measure !!

It needs a stink pipe fitted to relieve all the smell to the outside atmosphere. You need to T into the outside sewage pipe and fit a vertical pipe up to the hight of the house. Not expensive as 6m. of pipe will cost about 15TL.

and 20TL. for fittings. They dont seem to do this in TRNC when they build like in UK

ive not been in TRNC long,im also a sparky so im not too daft when it comes to build problems, ive got a fair idea before i post, however the problems im seeing is kindergarden level on the problems,TRNC builders seem to do do things a a level and standard ive not yet seen,i simply post to verify this total lack of BASCIC build skills,i mean the inital fitting of s and p traps is apprentice (1st year) stuff, not rocket science, also im staying in a brand new build, built by one of the best builders ive been told,????im going to have a lobotomy to try to get down to the required level, cheers all

We used to get a smell in the house. My husband found that the builders had fitted the soil pipe just under the guttering so the smell came back into the house. He got them to come back and refit the pipe so it finished above the guttering - no problems now for 7 years.
