I am considering getting Uran's new TV system which requires a 2mb internet connection - I currently have your 4MB connection. Somehow I need to split the signal between the computer and the satellite box. I use a desktop and therefore don't have wireless facilities on the computer and to further complicate matters the computer and TV are in separate non-adjacent rooms. Can you solve this problem for me or, failing that, can you recommend how to do it and what equipment I should buy? Thanks

It depends what you mean by 'split' the MM connection. If you want to dedicate 2mbs to the TV system and 2mbs to the computer, such that neither can ever go over 2mbs and usage on one will never affect the usage of the other, then that is not easy to do. If you mean you just want to have both the TV system and your PC connected to the same 4mbs connection, then that is easy. Assuming that currently your MM connection goes straight into your PC, then all you would need is a switch / hub. Plug the MM internet connection into the switch/hub and run an ethernet cable to the PC and another one to the TV system. A 5 port switch would meet your needs, one port for the internet in from MM, one for the PC and one for the TV system and 2 spare. Something like this would do it. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-030-EX&groupid=46&catid=1626&subcat= How you run the cable from the switch to each device is up to you. You can go 100 meters from the switch.

Thanks erolz - it is just to share a connection as I don't use the TV and computer at the same time. Do you know where I can buy a similar product here?

Comacks will have them, they will also make up any lenght of ethernet cable you might need as well, though if you are going to 'thread' it through ducting and drilled holes you may want to put the conectors on after doing that and not before, which will need a special tool.

Any computer shop should have a 5 port switch for around 15 gbp. No configuration from multimax end is needed for both your pc and dreambox to work simultaneously. One thing you need to keep in mind in this setup is that any of these 2 connections (computer and dreambox) will have access to your full internet capacity. If you are using your connection at your computer (applies mostly to downloading large content/streaming), it may affect your dreambox performance. Otherwise you shouldnt have any issues. Kemal

Thanks again erolz/Kemal. I download with Utorrent and it is easy to limit the maximum download speed if I want to watch TV - but then downloading is never urgent so I can always pause or even stop it. Halil tells me that he uploads via a 10mbps Multimax link so I am hoping latency will be negligible.
