I read an article in my local paper and they described internet piracy, in the article they state that many businesses abroad are using at the end of their web address the following .co.uk when in fact they have nothing to do with the UK, the UK Government is clamping down on this as they feel it misleads people in foreign countries to believe these businesses are UK based, also they are closing down these sites, 2 of these companies are http://www.naturebay.co.uk aand http://www.firstconsultcyprus.co.uk these are registered as TRNC companies and if you look on their webs you will find they have been under construction for months, my question is can you trust companies like this??????

@Mambosun, what you have described and the 'Internet Piracy' has nothing to do with one another. What you are describing is not internet piracy, either you misunderstood your 'local newspaper' (would you care to link the article?) or they dont know what they are talking about.

Having a co.uk domain does not add or subtract anything from your credibility in the same way someone British living in Northern Cyprus gain or lose credibility in real life.

You DO NOT have to have a company in the UK to own a co.uk domain name.

in the light of this new information, I rephrase the second sentence of my earlier message to

"What you are describing is not internet piracy, either you misunderstood your Dover Express article or they dont know what they are talking about."

Message 5 what the article implied is some companies use this to make people think they are dealing with UK companies when in reality they are dealing with unknown quantities.

What you are saying is exactly the same thing as 'I believed it was a genuine company because the director had a business card'.
