I got caught out in M&S last week mistaking the £ sign as UK £ - it is not UK £ it is Cypriot pound - basically I paid twice as much as I would have done in the UK

in both debenhams and m&s here products are more expensive than if you purchased the same thing in the uk.

last year i purchased a designer top in debenhams(uk) for a special occasion we had coming up.

when i got home i saw the label said it was made in turkey.(for pennies probably!)

i did also see the same top in debenhams in south cyprus and it did make me smile.

made in turkey!

Think I will save my pennies until I visit UK for retail therapy trip. Till then I will be wearing same clothes everyday until they fall off my back.

At least fruit and vegetables are great value so I'll be healthy.

The currency in South Cyprus is the Euro, not the Cypriot pound which disappeared nearly a year ago

Me and a friend of mine went over a week or so ago and we said it's really expensive over there now

They are gonna loose business pretty soon if they don't put the prices as they should

What they've done is change the money from Stg to Greek pound and then to Euro, whish is the wrong way to do it as it makes it really expensive

I won't be going again

LovingCyprus - hmmm well I never the South in Euope and using Euros too, who would have thought it.

I was referring to the way that M&S label their items in store both £ and Euro. I know the Cypriot pound disappeared some time ago but they still use the £ symbol on price tags hence the error.

Are you missing the point

In the south they are charging 3 times as much as the items should be in Stg

In Ireland it is only changed from Stg to Euro

Lovingcyprus

I was surorised when visiting friends in Pathos in October to see many shops showing both Cyp£ and euros. All the restaurants had both and the special lunch prices were all geared to the Cyp£ and not the euro.

I have just come back from Cyprus and at the moment the UK shops are full of bargins. It might be cheaper for all us expats to fly back to the UK and shop till we drop, its will be a hell of a lot cheaper better quality and might make big difference to the Greek and the Turkish economy and it will serve the greedy bs right.
