According to the media the power station emissions are now under control without expending much money. A tin of Whitewash ? The sad thing is Racoonchic I guess you are not even surprised by the situation you describe.

They wouldn't know the difference between a sky-hook and a skew-nail - 'sea path' and that cable car to St. Hilarion!

Who the Hell is about to give them €300,000 to further fritter away, anyway?

This appears to be referring to the coastal path that Lapta Belediye are building from Lapta to Karsiyaka and I, for one, am very happy about this. Anything that improves the area has surely got to be good news and this scheme will allow you to walk along the coast between the two villages. Message 4: hard to see how this is 'our money' - as far as I know the funds have been raised by the Belediye from the EU. Have to say that, as a Lapta resident, I think that the Belediye do a very good job in this area and are constantly improving Lapta and the other villages for which they are responsible. There are many justifiable complaints about what goes on in this country but I struggle to see what's to complain about on this one!

Agobard, I totally agree with you. Lapta Belediye are very good, always out and about cleaning up the main road, even our private road.

Agobard,

"Our" money if the funds eminate from the EU,EU funds derive from taxes on the public,so yes,it is "our" money!

davpat

The time that you lost your rights to 'your money' was when it left your pocket. Once you have given your money the government you have lost all right to it and how it is used.

Sounds like a good idea, the whole place needs a few decent promenades to make it more hospitable and family friendly.

They should spend a few million quid repatriating whinging poms and demolishing some of the eyesore building developments which blot the landscape just about everywhere you look !!

Just think of the poor Turk Cypriots - thought they had escaped tyranny in '74 only to end up a statelet of Turkey - squeezed out by Anatolians and having to put up with Brit ex pats opening horrible "pub"s and silly cafes like lar de dars.

DavPat I still maintain that funds from the EU are not our money. The money might be yours if you still live in the UK but it sure as hell isn't mine as I have lived here for years and the TRNC certainly don't contribute to EU funds!

Agobard,of course you are correct,I was referring to EU tax payers, which does include me as a UK tax payer, but I suppose it also includes all pensioners in the TRNC as they also pay into the system!
