This was written by a rig worker in North Sea.

I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit..

In order to earn that pay cheque, I work on a rig for a drilling contractor.

I am required to pass a random urine test, with which I have no problem.

What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test.

Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare cheque because I have to pass one to earn it for them?

Please understand that I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do on the other hand have a problem with helping someone sit on their ass drinking beer and smoking dope.

Could you imagine how much money the government would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a welfare cheque?

Would the resultant savings outweight the costs of administering the testing regime? Every week for maybe two million people? I'm not sure... philosophically I would say that I have a distinct problem with Big Brother but logically it is a sound argument..

I think it is perfectly valid. I paid heavy taxes for years to support myself and family and have always been disgusted with the way Governments hand this money out to any scrounger who cares to claim. I have no problem with people who are Disabled etc but the vast majority are simply workshy scroungers , both British and Immigrant. Believe me I know as my ex wife is a Senior Fraud Manager in the D.S.S.

Msg1: "...have a problem with helping someone sit on their ass drinking beer and smoking dope."

Based on general observance I don't think ppl need too much help doing that.

I think it intolerabe that a N Sea Rig worker has to undergo a urine test.

Such tests should be banned for them, as well as for Airline Pilots, Police, Paramedics, NHS staff, Taxi drivers, etc.

Surely everyone has the right to go to work half cut!

As a p/t police officer I was drugs tested on joining the force and am still subject to random checks. I'm a firm believer in mandatory testing for certain categories of employment. However, I am equally supportive of people's freedom of choice in their private lives, even to the extent of putting their own livelihoods at risk.

Anyway, pass that this way...

They should do random tests in schools as well, the problem's getting worse. I blame the supply teachers!
