With respect, and in a spirit of helpfulness, has it occurred to you to consider the reasons for lack of response:

1. Time and location may not be convenient for everyone.

2. It is not the best time of year - people who live at a distance may not fancy being caught in a thunderstorm and having to transport wet dogs in their car.

3. Lot of people have more than one dog and may not be able to leave others behind. Have you got provisions for multiple dog training and/somewhere where the others can be left ?

You mention basic training - is there any provision for dogs that already know basic commands to advance - eg teaching two or more dogs to walk and respond in unison?

My dog Charlie is deaf and has come a long way with the help of Kathy. He now knows the basic commands and is getting better socialising with others.

It would be a shame to see these classes finish as all the proceeds go to kar.

I agree with BiziLizi... 3pm counts out all the dog ownwers with Kids at school as its pick-up time.

1 'Time and location may not be convenient for everyone'

I recognise this, so he classes have been held todate at 1pm. However, I was informed by a caller that many of the schools finish at 1pm and it was difficult for them to get to the location by 1pm from Esentepe - So it was moved to 3pm.

- I have been at the location every week at 1pm and have often had no one there. I too have family and dogs at home which I have had to leave.

2. It is not the best time of year - people who live at a distance may not fancy being caught in a thunderstorm and having to transport wet dogs in their car

- When it has been raining I have posted on here that the class is cancelled due to rain. I also take a dog to the class for others to train and practice with if they do not want to take their own dog initially, or they feel that it will not mix with other dogs. Also in the summer it is too hot for the dogs to spend an hour in the sun, so now is the best time for the dogs.

Once the basic commands have been completed then multiple dogs obey.

I have 3 dogs and a (Turkish) neighbours dog in every day - all four respond to the commands. They sit and stay and do not approach me until they are given the command and they they sit and wait for me. This is a daily routine for their daily vitamin stick.

The most important thing is building the working relationship with your dog. That improves the home environment and puts you in control when walking your dog.

It is also advisable for the children to learn how to walk/command the dogs. So bringing them to class is not a problem.

Anyone nervous about bringing their dog can come along and practice with my dog. She is placid and untrained, so is still learning commands and has been used by others to practice.

mmmm Sorry the time is still inconvenient for me - and I am the other sideof Kyrenia.

Actually my three will also stay and come when called in unison. They all walk to heel on the lead individually , and the older two together, but the new puppy still under training is too strong and excitable to walk withthe l5 year old and I am too old to walk three at once.

Bearing in mind the different lifestyles and locations - have you thought about a internet advice service with a question and answer service. Not as good as learning to mix I know, but better than nothing.

The session will be on at 3pm on Thursday 23rd Feb.

If you come at 3.30pm you will be able to get instruction and some practice.

Having had 2 English Springer Spanials I know about training an excitable dog. The equipment used is an important factor.

Cathy,

You met our Lucy-long-legs lol. She is a great dog but I have always wished to have a dog that will walk at my side until I decide to let her off the lead. Then I would like her to continue walking at my side.~~

Till I give command go play

I so hope you are able to train my husband too He's far too soft with the pets, and needs a firm command of authority. Maybe I should do as he requests sometimes

Hi Spider

I say Gin on her original show and also followed her through the competition - she is brilliant.

I can help train your dog, but sadly I have the same problem with the husband, except the 'go play' that is one command I don't have to give. (the dogs ignore him anyway)

Saffi

Yes I can give you tips on toilet training, they worked on my dogs.

OzankoyMum

That will be OK, all the other dogs will be immunised anyway.

No,

I recommend from about 16 weeks (that is the age I started my dogs).

After they have had their initial shots is fine.

Contrary to the old saying, you CAN teach old dogs new tricks!!!!

It is important to develop the relationship with your dog which puts you in control - Leader of the pack!!!

This can only be done over a period of time.

Also dog socialising is very important as many of the dogs here have suffered and been abandoned and need to learn to trust people.

Advice is given on suitable collars/leads etc for 'controlling' dogs.

If your dog bites, nips, is agressive - you could end up with a dangerous dog if you do not learn to control it.

All proceeds go to KAR

With the combined contributions of the Dog Obedience and the Raffles at the Slimmers World Classes receipts show that we have so far paid to KAR:

24.12.2011 110.00TL

14.1.2011 85.00tl

March 2012 255.00 Currently - (plus Tuesdays & Saturday's Slimmers World raffles)

Kim will receive this month's money on Saturday after the group. Which means the total amount to date paid to KAR will be approx 450.00tl as at the moment (plus raffles).

1/2 the Raffle money goes on the prize the rest to KAR. Having a KAR staff member in each Slimmers World group means that they can sell the tickets and take the money and provide us with a receipt for the goups.

I feel very strongly about the value of the good work done by KAR. I ran a raffle in the UK and raised over £300 and brought over £350 of equipment. I then went back in August 2011 and my local pub which ran the raffle had filled the box I left with them (see KAR website)so they had another £100 in September 2011.

I have a Street Dog named Sally who was abandoned with 10 puppies in an empty house in Lapta. KAR took her in and re-homed the puppies and tagged her - I took her off the street. Last year I took her to the Chateau Lambousa Saturday market, during the winter so I could use the open terrace at the entrance, and she demonstrated her obedience techniques and raised over 100tl in one hour, and also some £'s and Euros, which we paid to Margaret and her colleagues on the stall.

As a voluntee myself, I know the work that they do. My husband and I go every Wednesday on a food run. We pick up the van and travel around Lefkosa picking up the waste food from Schools, Colleges & Hospitals, so that the dogs can be fed.

This week members of the Slimmers World classes have also brought items to the group for the KAR staff, one brought 2 packets of pasta to help with the feeding.

So I am very proud of the efforts of the groups and hope that the Dog Classes can continue.

Wow... well done to you and all who give. Its so nice to see that people are still giving and do care.

Well done too Sally It was nice to meet you last Thursday and I was very impressed with our Lucy.

Not once did she jump up at you and she left the other dogs alone, she did real well with me on my first session with her, considering Mr Spider always takes her. I though she might test me out a little, but I was very proud of her

Thank you.

I was proud of her too.

The first time I saw her she was taking Mr Spider for a tough walk, but within an hour she was great and has continued to make good progress each week.

The change in collar was a big factor and has made such a difference
