Has anyone read Cyprus Today (front page I believe). I just received information & a friend of mine has a home at the same place as President Talat. Should this be something to worry about as we have an apartment in North Cyprus & do you think this is a message to us all or is it just political propoganda?

CT Headline "President In Land Row Court Battle" President Talat owns homes on former Greek Cypriot owned land subject to a new legal battle launched in South Cyprus. Story in brief: Two greek Cypriots are demanding 2 million euros in damages from a construction company for "illegal use" of their 180 dunoms of land, which they claim they were forced to leave in 1974. The land was given to a minister for return for his properties in the South, who then passed it onto the construction company for development as the previous developer pulled out. Quote. " The greek cypriot government is not being honest. There are many properties on greek cypriot title land. Everybody knew the president has a house there and I wonder why they waited until the negotiations started" Unquote. This is not the full story but main parts of the paper which we received today.

| Murphy i also live at the same location in Sadrazamkoy, was wondering who your friend is as I most probably know them. Two years ago when the site was finished we had different Southern Cypriots come every week saying it was their land, one day two of them arrived at the same time and had an argument between themselves about who owned the land. | Graham, Due to the seriousness of this as it is already in court, it is not just a couple of Greeks saying the land belongs to them. My friends don't want to have their names mentioned as they don't wish to have a court case against them also. Soothsayer, With reference as not to worry it is only against cemal, as stated in the paper, Quote "However Cenk Mutluyakali editor in chief of the CTP- sponsored turkish language newspaper "Yeniduzen" said the case was targeting the president as well as Mr Bulutoglulari." Unquote Michelle, Their is no hidden agenda, we are concerned as our friends live on exchange land as do we. We are just wondering if we are safe from this happening to us. I have only just joined this site of is what to me is an alarming issue and wished to find out more information about it. |

murphy firstly why would any greek be putting claim to your land? maybe they were greek cypriot! i think you will have to wait and see the outcome of the talks and what happens from there. your friend must have been aware that at some point there would be a gc putting claim to the land .( if they purchased exchange land.) from recent events it has been ruled that the turkish gov/army has to pay compensation to the origional gc owner of land they occupy. she has the kochan for the land pre 1974, it has been ruled by the eu that she is still the owner. turkey was refused an appeal on this. i think the outcome of the orams case will also be the start point of things to come your friend took the risk like many other people, that was their choice.

Michelle, you said..."Their is no hidden agenda, we are concerned as our friends live on exchange land as do we. We are just wondering if we are safe from this happening to us" I'm not being disrespectful here but are you saying you purchased exchanged land without knowing the risks beforehand?

No1Doyen, Message 11, please read the thread again. My Message 8 was a reply quoting Murphy Message 4. Your Message 11 quote was actually taken from Murphy Message 9 responding. Therefore I think you should be asking Murphy that question. Hope that clarifies misunderstanding. For the record before I purchased I researched, researched, researched. Knew the potential risks before purchasing. Had 3 wonderful years in TRNC, not without drama and trauma. Would I do it again? YES. Yes, yes. Regards Michelle

Murphy I think your friends must be bricking it as all name's of the owners are on public view at the pool bar on the 'name and shame' board, who have and haven't paid their maintenance money. Graham

Hi Murphy, just seen your thread about the issue in the Cyprus Today about Mr Talat's holiday homes. I live full time at Sadrazamkoy and am very interested in the outcome of this myself and I see your point as that if they can claim land with 68 villa's on it. Will this open the flood gates for them to claim the land alot of apartment blocks are built on as your own. If you wish to know more about what is going on for your friends, I don't do this normally but you may email me off board at the following address. (email address deleted by moderator as per poster's request) Yes Graham, I do agree with you about all the villa owner names on the board by the pool. Do you suggest that this is removed due to the current situation. Michelle, you say you own property here also, forgive me, but I have lived here for over 2 years and don't know of any Michelle who owns a villa here. If you have concerns and would like any updates on the issue, please feel free to email me at the above address, same for you Graham.

Martin as far as I am concerned the board can stay up, it's a bit like bolting the stable door when the horse has gone. From a personal point I could not care tuppence as I don't hide where my property is and always tell folks when they ask. This subject was always going to rear it's head and we have always had a contingency fund to cover this. Graham

Graham, Thank you for these links I have copied them and forwarded them over to the UK, to a person was asked for them. Just had a call from the UK and some people in the UK are a little unsettled about this and the list has been removed by a committee memeber.
