Nearly 5 years ago I used Direct Dating (when in the UK) and met my partner Sara and we have been together ever since.



Mind you, you should see the amount of mingers you end up having a drink with because the picture they use is their best friend or blurry before you end up with the person who ticks all the boxes. He He

a friend of mine did in the uk.

she met some guy, after a few dates he started telling her he was a secret agent, totally bullsh-t.

she was so disgusted with him, she billed him for her services!

we all had a good laugh but she stayed away from internet dating after that.



we do have friends who met through the lonely hearts pages in the paper.

they are married and are very happy.



from a womans point of view, i think there are lots of unsavory people who us these dating services.

if i were single , i wouldn't go there!

I know quite a number of people who have wonderful lasting relationships as a result of internet dating. They are not at all unsavoury unlike your suggestion.

I am using internet dating sites now,and used in UK before I came to live in TRNC.There is nothing unsavoury about them,if used properly.

I did post a forum on 1st Dec "Ladies Wanted".I have met and spoke to a few,and more to meet.but still interested in meeting more.I WANT a wife!!

Perhaps those that tut,tut and bemoan can suggest other places to seek a partner,here in TRNC.

I am a genuine nice bloke,enjoying retirement here,but miss that special person in my life.

I have booked a weekend in Istanbul,and going alone,tomorrow!!!.How much better would it be to take a lady for a romantic dinner?

I met my former girlfriend via the net and had a great 3 years with her before we parted.



It is now commonly used by singles, people within it are not labelled as desperate anymore, and you can now be "out there" without looking too aggressive. Realizing that you are not alone and that many people are also dating through the internet is refreshing for some people. It gives the shy opportunity to do what they cannot do in person. Therefore, there are more chances of them showing their true self through internet dating. It also gives you the opportunity to meet other people in different areas of the world, or different areas of expertise.



There are not many places in TRNC to meet a poetential partner, so as long as both parties are carefull there should be no problems.

My brother who is 35 moved to France some 5 years ago. Whilst there he started chatting to a lady on-line who now he lives with, who is very pretty and is very intelligent. They now have a little boy and will be married in summer next year. There is nothing wrong with internet dating, but I do beleive, like with everything these days, you have to be careful - there is and will always be the few that spoil it for the rest. It is very difficult to meet like minded people, and at least with internet dating you can put in your likes and dislikes to narrow down the chances of disappointment !!

Yes there are reasons why a senior member such as me will have some difficulty in finding a partner,but there must be lots of "clients",separated,divorced,widowed much younger than me,who would want to show they are "available".

Obviously you will need to prove they are "genuine" and not married looking for extra marital affairs

Hi All,



I am not looking for a partner as I have one and I don't want to swop him but I wondered whilst reading this thread, if there were any singles clubs in the TRNC. I have been married 30 years but I did go to some of these clubs before I met my husband. They were just a great night out and I would think there would be plenty of venues that could hold such events around Kyrenia.

I also went to a club where we used to go out to dinner to different restaurants each week and from this went on to social events like ten pin bowling, tennis, badminton and days out to the beach etc. Like Laptamike try putting an ad on here and see what response you get. My sister found herself single again in her mid fifties and I know how difficult she finds it meeting new people, so if that is what you want to do. Well go for it and set up a club.

It could be argued that with the increasing single population through separation, divorce and even death of a partner is the reason for the growth in Internet Dating. More mature people are out there looking for dating opportunities. These same people are probably not that comfortable anymore with the mating rituals carried out in pubs, bars and clubs, even if those suitable venues exist.

However, it seems that the younger generation are also using this medium. This could be due to the popularity of social networks such as Facebook and My Space. The young folk of today (doesn't that make you feel old) were brought up with mobile phones, texting, emailing and instant messenger. They do not see the practices as new fangled but instead as part of the fabric of life.

There are other elements of course. Security is one, although that is a contradiction in terms where the internet is concerned. This is more about the security of one's ego and sensibilities.
