A community project is being undertaken to bring a skatepark to North Cyprus. The purpose of this park is to provide somewhere safe for children to get back on wheels! As we all know there are no safe places for children to ride bikes, skateboards, scooters and rollerblades.

This site can also double up as an outdoor event venue.

The beauty of this project is that the children themselves will be designing this park, We will have an outdoor gallery wall for children to respectfully display their artwork, permenant art in the form of mosaic tile art inset into the concrete etc.

We have children onboard as newletter editors, website designers, youtube channel managers, photographers, cameramen, presenters, journalists.

We have a Skate headquarters in Bellapais where the children will be able to work on this project during the preparation stage, then it will turn into a gallery to display their ideas to the architect (who is already onboard and working for free) continued...

who will then select the best bit of all of the childrens ideas to create the final design..

Both Ozankoy and Bellapais Muktars are providing full support to this project.

At this stage we are looking to equip the Skate HQ with computer equipment, paper, art equipment, cameras, camcorders, pens, printers, ink etc

This equipment will be borrowed and returned, we need it for about 3 months

If you can help in any way please contact me 0533 823 7117

I have completed many junior and infant schools which had similar facilities, i have 15 years in the construction industry.

Message4- the reason for 3 mths is because i will only get a 90 day stamp

Message6- thats correct, see how i go,can,t blame a man for trying

@ msg 11, ozankoymum: (...) and thank you for the first negative comment on this fantastic project that so many kids are getting very excited about.. (...)

▶ Ozankoymum, a positive attitude is not appreciated by a known gang on this board. I follow the 'skateboard' initiative on Facebook also and wish you and other parents involved - and especially the children - lots of success.

Don't let "them" demoralize you.

Falling on the wrong stuff hurts and that is why they need a sk8 park. The pavements are wrong the roads are full of pebbles and do we want them on the streets NO so let’s see. I believe a sk8 park could be good for the community.

There will always be 'doubting Thomas's' with every new project. One important lesson that the children will learn from this process.... 'EVERY ACHIEVEMENT STARTS WITH A DESCISION TO TRY' It is not in my mentality to accept the Status Quo, but to challenge it.. Why shouldnt the children here be provided with a safe and encouraging place to 'Get on Wheels'..

Racoonchic, buy Cyprus Today on Saturday and you will see for the first time in 6 years a child on a skateboard... and a scooter.... and rollerblades.

Its a lovely thing to see children out socialising and doing something active rather than sitting in front of a screen..

In 4 days we have 150 TRNC children behind this project and rooting for us on our facebook page.. and lots more behind the scenes working together and developing their skills in lots of ways.

Its not a waste of Money, its an investment in improving the social lives and health of all TRNC children,, that can never be a waste of money!

Becky, all I can say is 'good Luck' with the venture. North Cyprus needs something for the kids instead of them just looking at a computer screen playing games in the numerous game shops. I wish you every success. Gwyn

Whatever happened to the skateboard park in Zeytinlik. It was started and finished was in the papers I remember a few kids going down there and then everybody lost interest. I passed it a few months ago and it looked like it had been damaged by the weather. Do you really think another one would be any better I am not so sure but good luck anyway

Thank you Groucho, will be in touch I really appreciate that.

The park in Zeytinlik was well used by the skaters I know, but the only had 2 small wooden ramps and they got vandalised and destroyed by weather.

This park will have concrete ramps that will be vandal proof and weater proof, will have a picnic area, sheltering, seating, and be a fulti-functional space where we can have outdoor events.

There is a lot of effort already being put into this project to make it look beautiful, by the way of art that can be inset into the concrete and a gallery wall, the seating and tables will be inventive and beautiful.. the kids have so many great ideas, it is certainly going to be interesting to see the plans and artists impression.

ozankoymum I may have some kit you could use, camcorder and maybe a PC or latop or both, but am a little confused as to if you are looking for such stuff for a 3 month loan or for a permanent donation ? Ovviously if its just 3 month loan what I might be able to contribute is greater than if its permanent, if you see what I mean.

The items I need to borrow are just for 3 months to provide a group neutral workspace for all children to be able to get together to work on designs, Artwork, Newsletter, Website, Youtube Channel and to then use as a viewing gallery for potential Sponsors or Contributers.. HQ is a singular unit that is used only by us.

Groucho and Erolz I am zipping about today trying to get things ready for the weekend, but if you could kindly call me I can collect anything that you may have that we could use.

Thank you so much for your support

ALSO Thank you to my lovely Zumba Lady Lyn who came with 50tl to help buy stationary for HQ.. Today I will be buying packs of paper, Spray Mount Glue, and pens pencils etc and reciepts will be at HQ.

I appreciate this gesture greatly but for transparency I think its safer that I recieve items rather than money.

Excellent job you are doing, the children are so, so excited. Not only is is good to see what comes from a 'can do' approach for the children, I, as an adult (most of the time) am also in awe of what you and the children have accomplished. I forget that you CAN do things if you have the fire to do so.....Good for you and good luck for this project. My 2 (and I) can't wait....xxx
