Can anyone tell me where you can buy UK quality posidriv/philips screws that don't go rusty overnight?

I assume the ones I bought in the uk are galvanised or something, but the screws here look all shiny when you buy them but rust like a 70s lancia.

Thank you Elko , so you can get them here-do you think there will be stockists in the Girne area- Nicosia is a long way to go for a screw( If you will pardon the expression)

and while we are on the subject , where can I go to get a good matchmaker?

I have spent all winter trying to light a fire with flimsy little sticks which snap in half instead of coming alight when struck.

I did find a couple of boxes of long stout ones from the UK at a charity shop, but they wont last the cold season.

You may not smoke but have you tried buying 2 or 3 cigarette lighters which are as cheap as chips and at least one if not all should last several winters.

You can buy inox (stainless steel) either at the small chandlery in Delta marina or at the chandlery in the old harbour near the mosque.

Long matches very sturdy can be bought in the South either at Home store or Carrefour.

Brass screws do not rust and are not that expensive by the box. They are available at every builders merchants.

I agree with yrret. Marshalls (and probably others) sell a gold/bronze coloured rustless posidriv screw in many sizes.

As to matches, many places sell long-nosed rechargeable gas lighters especially for fires/BBQs. I have a Ronson but it was 6 years ago and I don't remember where I got it now. The lighters cost about 10tl and can of gas about 5tl - how long the gas lasts I cannot tell you - after 6 years mine isn't empty yet.

Gerry msg 15-I have some brass screws, but I have always found that they have a habit of breaking if you screw too hard(oooeeer missus!)-also I have never seen posidriv-philips head brass screws?

A pal of mine who was a joiner would always dip screws into water before fixing things like floorboards and staircases when he really didn't want them to move afterwards - he said that the surface rust that developed helped them grip the wood

Stainless steel screws and fittings also available from Sevkotoglu & Kingfisher Marine as well as the places at the harbours that Hippo mentioned - also a very good place in the South, just past Orphanides on the main road, if you happen to be going that way, it's called 'Spanias'.

Long-nosed rechargeable gas lighters from good old Mr Pound

Tektan stock all sorts of things like that and are quite helpful.
