what have the Brits ever done for the Turks? You're all going to start running away like rats now and leave us to deal with this mess. We don't need you, the Turks are a mighty nation much more advanced than the Brits will ever be.

Zanny....your xenophobia confuses me. Are you against all foreigners buying property in the TRNC (irrespective of title),or are you agains all foreigners in general and would not even welcome them as tourists?

zanny: You are posting online on a public forum so when you claim that Cyprus is purely a turkish island please do justify such a Big statement by providing historical evidence and references. There is a reason why Cyprus is recognised internationally (also joined the EU) and that the fake goverment of the so called 'Turkish Republic of North Cyprus' is only recognized by Turkey and no other country in this planet. The reasons are based on historical evidence. I am not going to go into the whole history of cyprus simply because I don't have the time to start such a long discussion in every forum and especially on the Cyprus Problem that not even our politicians have found a solution yet! However, I'm only writing this post to kindly ask that if you write down publicly and on the Internet such a big statement that 'Cyprus is turkish' then you do have the responsibility to support such statement with references both historically and politically. Only then can people discuss!

Oh Dear just when I thought to Board was on a "lets be positive" run. How sad, can we not all live in peace respecting each other. Obviously the answer seems to be a resounding NO.

Tricia, of course it's a shame, and I agree we should all try to remain positive, but when you get people on here spouting their racist rhetoric they should be moderated and in the event that that doesn't happen they should be oppsed and exposed for what they are

Mussy/Zanny A great advert for the turkish people i bet your mothers are really proud. Turkey a great nation maybe when you sort out your appalling human rights record. As for not needing the "Brits" if we all packed up and went home you would have to go back to herding sheep my friend.....

Blackpoolfan I take it you do not live out here in the TRNC. If you did and you got to know the Turkish Cypriots then you would know that they are survivors. The average TC does not need us and in fact it is us Brit expats that are causing them more problems than anyone else yet they still welcome us with open arms. Re Turkey's appalling human rights record, talk to me about so called civilized countries such as the USA, talk to me about China, talk to me about the UK where people can be shot by the police and nobody held to account, and I have just heard that the government have just agreed to take in and hold 'prisoners' from Guantanamo Bay. Human rights? you don't know the half of it. AJ

Newlad, Thank you for the informative link. The EU must drive this forward. It is the EU that allowed the speedy accession of ROC to EU. What a mistake. The protocols within the Treaty of Accession must be capitalised and enforced upon the ROC so that the TRNC gets a fair deal. ROC have the European card. TRNC has possession and the backing of Turkey. The EU needs to keep in favour with Turkey rather than allow them to move allegiance to the middleast or eastern block. The EU must be objective and use its powers to prevent any steamroller approach by the ROC. TRNC do not have the political power or prowess to secure a deal on its own. The EU cannot allow the Island to degenerate into a cauldron of civil unrest and anarchy.
