You do not need to stay over night for MRI scan or blood testing ? Well as far as I know.

They will want to monitor her it sometimes can happen having an epileptic fit as a one off. My sister had one when she was pregnant,it's never happened since also my husband had one when we first me because of the flu and a high temperature.

All the best wishes.

Hi

Went with a friend who had some tests at the state hospital Lefkosa on Monday. They have started charging. The cost for an ulstrasound I believe was 40TL and an Xray 20TL. Can't tell you costs of anything else. This person has residency and is ex-pat.

Best to ask the questions when you go in and try and find out how much it is all going to cost up front - if you can.

We have very recent experience of the State Hospital charges, and they are very reasonable. The charges for staying are very low and the charges for tests reflect their real costs not some hyper-inflated fee like the private medical world charges with feeling any shame.

Groucho,

Surely the state hospitals are subsidised by the Government which will reflect their prices?

The MRI is completely different from an ultrasound or xray and as more in depth will prob cost you more. I recently underwent an MRI and the cost was 300 TL, that said the procedure was not done at the Lefkosa state hospital. Good luck.

In answer to msg 1 - if you don't have sigorta (insurance) you have to pay. It is about 20TL per night and that includes food. Don't know the price of a MRI but nothing like 300TL. I had my Thyroid removed last month - 2 nights in hospital, blood works and echo beforehand - 1600TL. Privately would have been IRO 5000TL.

Fryingpan - why did you say 'depends on whether the liver is involved' please? I have an autoimmune disease which can cause cirrhosis and need regular blood tests to see impact on liver.

Graycoule, my husband was in about a year ago, he was transferred from Girne to Lefkosa by ambulance after having blood tests & ECG. He had a CT scan and was in hospital 2 nights, the cost for everything, including IV fluids etc. was the equivalent of £51.

I suffer from epilepsy and was quite ill last year. Spent 5 days ın ıntensıve care @ Lefkosia state hospital. İ only had to pay for my private room which was shared with an older lady. I think it was 100TL. Took excellent care of me.I dıd have an EEG scan, ECG monıtor. Your wife would need to have an EEG scan for her braın. It took 5 years for me to be diagnosed and had 2 MRI scans whıch dıd not show up anythıng. The scan would show a tumor but not epılepsy. I also had a dopler test and agaın showed nothing. The EEG scan ıs a definıte must have to be sure for epilepsy. İf for any reason it is out of order you can go Greek side and have an EEG scan there and it costs no more than 130 Euro. The brain specialist I have here is Dr Ferda and she is really lovely and speaks fluent english. She is a prıvate doctor and her mobile no is; 0533 860 8616. If you need more ınfo help please call me. Sandra 0533 863

Just one thing, not to scare you but the MRI scan is extremely scary. It totally freaked me out and I had to be sedated for the second one. Do not scare your wıfe but try and explaın to her that the capsule ıs very small, dark and confined. You have to lıe completely stıll for around 10 mıns. Ask the hospıtal if you can go ın wıth her and sıt wıth her. If you stroke her leg to calm her. They wıll gıve her a panıc button. My husband came wıth me for the fırst one and ıt really dıd help but I was ın tears after and could not stop shakıng. Obvıously for the sake of your wıfe I dont want to frıghten you but ıf you can just gıve her some warnıng and support. A frıend of ours went last week for one and he just could not handle ıt and left. I dıd not thınk to warn hım what to expect. I hope thıs ıs of help. S
