Seems that the GC buggers have roped in the Danish presidency of the EU to go after anyone using, buying or selling former GC property or land in North Cyprus. Not enforceable inTRNC but could affect anyone crossing over to use Larnaca or to shop. Time to shut up shop and close the crossing points me thinks!

Phil - Today's Cyprus Today features the story. Wonder if we should be shoring up the Battlements. Any Greek wanting to take this from me will find himself covered in boiling oil and a pillow full of feathers. Sick of the sensationalism.

The GC are always playing the victim, and always will, because they have no b*****, they can be pathetic at times, you would think the bubbles would have more to worry about, and what about the land that belongs to a TC in the south? Only My Opinion Sundance

Whilst this is not enforceable in the TRNC it will be enforceable in the south if enacted. Since the whole island is in the EU, although the aquis communicaire is suspended, it may be that Turkish Cypriots can use this, should it become law, to regain their properties and compensation in the south. It's also probable that any Greek Cypriot cases would still have to go to the IPC as recognised by the ECHR as the local solution. As long as one has no 'incriminating' papers relating to property in their vehicle, one should experience no problems travelling north to south over the border.

Typical tunnel vision and one sided viewpoint by the GC's. I think once the world see what has been happening to title deeds in the South and by that I mean the falsification of TC deeds to GC deeds the GC's are in for a very rough ride.

Reading between the lines here, this is more an admition by the GC's that they are unable to resolve the problems, or satisfy their own electorate themselves. They know they are so far on the back foot politically, and about to be the caue of the end of the talk. By getting the Danes on board, they are only securing their vote against for years down the line whe the UN finally has to accept NC is a separate entity. Nothing more that another cry for help. The only people likely to be affected are Danes, now, how many are there here? And so what is the probability of one of them getting picked up for questioning and carrying incriminating evidence. There was once alittle boy who climbed a hill, "wolf,. wolf" he cried ................... you know the rest.

Yes, virtually year on year we get a similar scare story to coincide with the start of the tourist season just to make people aware of their lop-sided view of all things Cypriot....

is it just me or am I the only one suspicious about this Cyprus Today article not being echoed in the south's press, e.g. Cyprus Mail? It's all around the blogs but is not being repeated in newspapers. There is already a law in place, this news is just saying they're going to add an unspecified way of finding out who is trespassing in the north. Just been reading the Cyprus Tapes by David Carter and this is the same issue he was facing in 1978!

yet again we have a scare-story directed at the buyers of "exchange land" and yet the real prospect of using the courts to dissolve the partition of cyprus is further away than it ever was nothing wrong with wishful thinking, but pinpricks in the press and the subtlest efforts of armchair propagandists only serve to expose the true impossibilty of what are essentially coffee-shop dreams and to those contributors still a-hankering for a cyprus solution of the er... reunification kind, time as the newsreel used to proclaim, marches on: while those cosy and cherished stereotypes like a rigid and never-blurring separation of cypriots and former mainland populations and yellowing eu/ un paperwork of idealistic intent become about as negociable as historical accounts of the battle of wounded knee with apologies to any first americans population who may be reading this

From the same site The website of the British High Commission in Nicosia contains information about purchasing property in Cyprus, including frequently asked questions, and information for people who are experiencing difficulties with a property purchase. On 20 October 2006 a criminal code amendment relating to property came into effect. Under the amendment, buying, selling, renting, promoting or mortgaging a property without the permission of the owner (the person whose ownership is registered with the Republic of Cyprus Land Registry, including Greek Cypriots displaced from northern Cyprus in 1974), is a criminal offence. This also applies to agreeing to sell, buy or rent a property without the owner’s permission. The maximum prison sentence is seven years. Furthermore, the amendment to the law states that any attempt to undertake such a transaction is a criminal offence and could result in a prison sentence of up to five years.
