Hello all,

I am a freelance journalist and am seeking a unique subject for an "us and our home" type of piece for the property section of an international publication.

You might be the person I'm looking for if you (or someone you know) own a high end luxury home in North Cyprus and believe that it has a particularly special story and background to it (maybe you renovated a very old property into a luxury home). Or if you own such an exceptional property and it is for sale, that works too.

Please call me on 0533 844 51 23 to discuss.

Thank you very much for your help.

How about an article about how you can actually purchase a property in North Cyprus, where the construction is to the best possible standard, the builder, (zafer, Sydney Construction) done everything he could to make the whole process as easy as possible, and actually went out of his way to provide a truly perfect home.

Despite all what you read to the contrary, it can actually happen:

narsos/Msg1: I suggest you read this before your TRNC promotional efforts:

Are you or your potential readers aware that if you buy pre 1974 Turkish Title property after being assured [read: blatantly lied to] by estate agents and lawyers that this will exempt you from any later problems from buying formerly Greek Cypriot property, and that obtaining your title deed 'is a mere formality', you discover to your dismay that the TRNC government refuse to give you Permission to Purchase [PTP]. This effectively means that you cannot ever get the title deed to the property in your name and that said property remains in the seller's name in perpetuity. If the seller mounts up unpaid debts, the creditor[s] can slap a memorandum on the property you have paid for in full and your property can be sold to pay the creditor[s] debt. Alternatively, the seller can take a mortgage out on YOUR property. Incredibly, this is law in the TRNC and is condoned as well as being sanctioned by the government!

Very well said totally informative and true as alwas Tenakoutou

Mess 1 you should NOT be promoting TRNC property under any circumstances! it is tantamount to aiding and abetting fraud! If you are a journalist (and I have my doubts) you should be better informed as to what is happening in the region you want to promote!

narsos/Msg1:

You would more gainfully employ your research time by finding out how much the TRNC banks are exposed to from having made loans/mortgages to builders, landowners and developers on expats' fully paid for property - loans that remain outstanding and unpaid, thereby, according to TRNC law, placing buyers that don't have their title deeds in the situation of being forced, through no fault of their own, except having been sucked into buying on the island, to forfeit their properties in order to reimburse the 'loan sharks'.

Anybody, who doesn't have the title deed in their name on any type of immovable property is, if not now, a potential victim, North or South.

I am afraid there is a great deal of truth in the above posts. Of course I would like to see more cash coming to my country but what I do not want to see is more agony. There is so much to be done by the government but they are so incapable that I have given up all hope. So unless steps are taken to protect buyers especially the foreign buyers who are more vulnerable, nobody should be encouraged to come to Cyprus and buy any property.

I am aware of the fact that there are many many happy buyers but even 10% of failures makes me angry because most of them could be avoided. I did my best to explain the situation to the politicians but in the end I reached the conclusion that those in power have no ability to listen, to understand or to act. Sorry about that.

Er...do you mean 'quite deliberately won't', because so many of them 'have their noses in the trough'?

I think this person wants to have an interesting positive story about an exceptional property - either by architect, history or unconventional construction. Nothing to do with buying, selling, bad builders, deeds, crooks, TC's, GC, Cyprus issue etc, etc, etc.

And you're wrong about the poster not being a journalist.

The weather is lovely, the sun is shining, come on give up all this negativity

Why not encourage somebody to write something good about this place

Why not tell it like it is - or is that not too 'happy-clappy' for wishful thinkers?

Try 5 Demokrasi Sokak, Karsiyaka, part of K5. I believe it is exceptional now and boasts 5 CCTV cameras. Makes them feel safer I am told.

So if that person wants to write about a beautiful building restauration like the Bedestan ( this is nearer to to the request) then she must compare it to K5 etc or what?? This is way off topic now

dippersgirl:

To eulogise about a property, or properties, that any foreigner can never actually own due to the current laws prevailing in North Cyprus is tantamount to attempting to fraudulently attract buyers!

How many times do people need to be told this essential information?
