Just to let you all know we are making good progress since the weather changed for the better.

Should all run reasonably smoothly from now on we should open up the doors for the first time on Sunday 1st April (its a s good a day as any and I promise no tricks to be played)!!!!!

If you want to join us on facebook feel free to look up Olive Press and add us or if you are not on the database and wish to be then you can send an email to olivepressinfo@yahoo.com

UPDATE:

Groundworks now virtually complete and carpet is due to be laid 28th March onwards although we are trying to get that date brought forward by 1 week.

So all being well (and by the very latest) we should be able to open the doors for business in the first or possibly second week of April.

In addition to that we are delighted to announce that Tony & Ruth (ex Waterfront/Stumble Inn) are coming to run the kitchen with us thus giving you not only a great place to bowl & drink but excellent food will also be available.

You DO NOT have to be a member to come to The Olive Press but our Social Membership package at just 40 lira gives you discounted food and drink all year round.

We will post again in a week or two and let you know when you can come down and join as a Social or Bowls member.

Thanks

Hello Top Ten

Yes we have brought 52 sets of bowls with us of varying sizes and weights. The use of them is included in the membership price. The same applies with a limited number of shoes but what most people will do is get a comfortable pair of trainers skimmed flat at one of the cobblers in town.

We also have all the sundry items that go to make up a game of bowls such as scoreboards, scorecards etc.

Thanks

I should also point out that you do not have to be a member to bowl, drink or dine with us but if you wish to you can join just as a Social Member for 40 lira a year and you will get discounts on your food and drink.

For Example: if a local spirit with mixer was 5 lira you would only pay 4.5 as a Social Member. The same applies to food with 1 or 2 lira discounted off the full price.

Free bowls sessions will also be available regularly, so if you are a total novice you can have a go. We will show you the basic rules and you can then decide if it is something you think you will enjoy.

The best priced bowling membership package costs just £5.76 per week and you can play as many times as you like on the full size green, 7 days of the week.

Thanks

Used to love Ruth and Tonys food when they had the 'Farmhouse' ,.... Look forward to having a meal at the 'Green Bowling', ... Just so long as no huge tv screens and it becomes like a British pub ...

Look out for the articles in Cyprus Today (weekend edition) and also in the Express (Lapta Municipality paper) from the 2nd April.

Just one week today till work begins on laying the green, that will take around a week or so to complete. Should any of you good people wish to visit whilst the above is ongoing then we will be at the site every weekday from the 22nd March.

At the time of your visit to site you can sign up to your preferred membership package whether that be a bowling or non bowling one. All details for pricing can be found on the web site

http://www.olivepressbowlingcyprus.com

As already pointed out earlier it is not a members only facility but discounts will apply to all drinks and food for those who do join.

Thanks

Moving the surface to site today. Only 26 rolls at 200kg each, so we should have it done in an hour!!!!!! (I wish)

Start fitting from tomorrow and should take 5 - 7 days to complete. Feel free to come down and take a look when you have time.

Thanks

Lots of prep work done today with batons and grippers being fixed in place. Tomorrow we will start putting the underlay down.

First job though was to check on the structure of the slab and ensure that it was to the specifications outlined to us prior to building. The result of the checks show that we have a great surface and the lead fitter said it was as good as any slab he had seen in the years he has been working on bowls greens (20 years).

Of course we were all very very happy with that outcome!!!!!!!

A big thank you to all who have popped in not only today but over the last week. It has been great to meet you all.

didn't you do well! The carpet did not take a week but only 3 days (I think). that is brilliantt hard workers and results.

so any idea of the official opening date yet - with so little to get done.

sorry I can't come up with a broom - too much tidying up to do in other areas of my life!

Well Marion the doors are promised for next Saturday. Important so we can all go for wee in private!! I need to do some pushing for the bar and the electrician should be here on tuesday. Off to the solicitors in the morning to sort out some paperwork.

As soon as I can give a date then I will do (I hope just after Easter)?

Thanks very much Ballymurphy and to everyone who has been to see us over the last 10 days. It already looks like we will have some great people joining us, not only bowlers but social members as well.

We have an opening date BUT as of yet it is not 100% official. Hope to open up on Wednesday 11th April but will confirm via this forum, local press and database.

Hi Batgirl - sorry but the we are not going to offer a reduction in price for those with their own woods etc.

Gusanova - I have emailed you off board with my mobile number but there is a small map on the web site as well which might help?

We called in to day to say Hi to Martin and the team, I am not into bowls but I must say it is very very impressive.

In fact I did have a roll on the green, (not the first time) but I better not go into that or I will get banned again.

I suppose like lots of people I thought it was an old persons sport, but I think those days are gone and lots of people of all ages play .

This really is Unique to TRNC. I hope it is a big hit. You deserve after your determination hard work and huge investment.

Good Luck.

leylandlad I also have my own bowls and shoes and at £300 for a full membership, not cheap and which is considerably more than all the other clubs on the island, surely it is unreasonable to charge people the same membership fee if they do not require to hire your equipment? I have spoken to many of my bowling friends who wish to become full time members and who also have their own bowls, and they too are of the same opinion. A small differential in price would be seen as a fair pricing policy eg £250 for those who do not require to hire bowls and £300 for those who do?

Hi Doug

Sorry to hear you think the price is slightly high but at £5.76 a week for unlimited bowling we think it is reasonable. For example if you played 3 times a week for 2 hours then it comes at a cost of just £1.92 per game or around 5.5 Turkish lira, which is great value for money.

We also have to pay quite a heavy tax on each membership, so the true amount of money that the business actually makes from initial joining fees is considerably less than the £300. If in the future we can secure some tax breaks then we would quite happily pass them on to members and reduce the price.

Also to take in to consideration is that you benefit from reduced price drinks and food when using the facilities so over the course of a year it is quite possible that you will save yourselves a lot of money in this way.

If you or any of your friends are members of the RBL or RBS there is a discount when joining of £20.

Thanks

Martin
