I applied and was granted my first residency last year and it is due for renewal at the end of March. My reason for asking is not a financial one but because I do not want to have another X-ray. In the last 3 years I have had numerous X-rays due to a broken foot, back problem, the usual womens health check with mamograms etc. and I do not wish to have an unnecessary one just to satisfy the residency test. I think the risks attached to too many Xrays far outweighs the consequences of not renewing residency. I also don't particulary like the idea of a blood test in a state hospital. I am therefore thinking of just crossing the border every 90 days until they relax this aspect. Has anyone else done this or does is it not that I have residency?

Crossing the border to the South does not guarantee you a 90 day visa. The only guaranteed way is leaving the Island either to Turkey or anywhere else for that matter.

Once you are in the system, you really have no choice (Even getting a new Passport no longer works).

My Residency (5th year) ran out last Feb,I didnt renew as I was getting a work permit(which took a few weeks) , once they saw the expired residency stamp, the most that they would give me (after alot of pleading ) was 7 days, the norm was 3 days and told to renew my residency, they did say that If there had never been a residency stamp or Work permit issued, they could give me 90 days No Problem.

My husband is currently sick and not able to make the residency office. All has been done apart from the last part.

Does anyone know what the fine is for being late doing this?

I feared that would be the case having been recorded in the system. Is there any way that residency can be renewed without the X-ray?

If you are sent to a private clinic they do not take an x-ray. But the state hospital does.

It seems to be a matter of luck which you get, private = good, hospial = bad.

I think next time if I am given the hospital option, I will walk aout and not bother renewing.

Blade,

If you see a notary and get Power of Attorney over your husband you can pick his residency up for him. As far as I know though there is no fine for picking it up late.

People who use agents do not have to attend at immigration. I don't see why doing it for a spouse should be a problem? POA would seem to be a step too far.

We have always been told by the Immigration dept in Lefkosa that BOTH of us do not need to attend to collect two renewed residencies.

Message 4: take your passports to the girls in the driving school in Girne - first shop on the left in the police station road. They will get your residency stamps either same day or next day for a small fee.

As it is only the state hospital that does x-rays - the clinics do the TB needle test - why don't you see whether the hospital is choosing a private clinic or the hospital on a particular day by asking those coming out of the office and when it is a private clinic go and get your paperwork done then.

Did my residency application last week. Went to the police station in Girne, they issue a slip of paper for you to go to the state hospital in Girne for blood test and xray. 135 tl for both, then picked up the results a week later. I don't think that you can choose to go to a clinic....and you do have to have the xray. This was my 4th year, no xrays in the past but rules have changed.

mrsgee: No you can't choose, the hospital does that for you, some lucky people are sent to private labs and in that up-to-date, clean environment you don't have an x-ray.

Blade don't worry about picking up your hubby's stamp late. We renew in August which is a nightmare and usually leave it at least 6 weeks before going to the residency office. It has never been a problem.

judyr. Original message.

Yes I made the same decision as you. I got 90 days stamp, was lucky, but still happy if I get a few weeks, dont want to go through that medical stuff again. Had all the same tests as you. Fed
