We lived for 8.5 years in Bellapais, Ozankoy and Catalkoy and just before Christmas we moved to Lapta. There is no 'darker' side (just the South!)

There is not any difference at all. Okay, you have to check out the shops, restaurants etc to find out which suits you best but it is fun trying new places.

We worked on the principle that we travelled over 2,000 miles (or over 3,000 kms) and left our family and friends to get here so we could easily travel 20kms down the road to Lapta!

At least it's not like Thailand... google 'Thailand Rubbish Dump' and realise how easy it is to turn a blind eye to the terrible cost of everything being so cheap there....

Groucho

Your link to this story is so upsetting, it makes our problems so trivial. It is sad to think there are many people around the globe living like this. I saw similar in Cambodia in the nineties, it breaks your heart. Wish I knew the answer.
