Very few reports about new Hep C cases lately. A couple of weeks ago at least 20 - was it on one day or did they meet that day in the dreaded State Hospital? - and a lot of ongoing commotion on this rumour board.

The authorities must have taken some very successful counter measures.

Well lets just hope that the "authorities" have got their act together. Or could it be the publicity changed their tactic on how to get more money from us???

@ msg 5, Daisy_Dukes: (...) most likely crapping himself waiting for results...i know i would be! (...)

▶ Hmm. I seem to remember that the result(s) from Turkey were bound to arrive in a fortnight. That was around January 30. It's now March 1. And after at least two prominent articles about the problem in Cyprus Today it looks like our local watchdog has forgotten to follow up.

P.S. I have to go to the State Hospital in Nicosia today - I'm so afraid of what can happen in that hell hole...

You would not believe it if you were told the latest in this ongoing fiasco.

You could really not make it up.

Very sad for any one having to wait for results that could devastate their lives and their families. It will make every one very nervous if under 60 who will have to have their blood tested!....

A very sad state of affairs ....

Hans;

I would suggest that if you were unfortunate enough to have to go through the current tests for residency you may well be afraid.

We all know you were well taken care of in your time of need but this is a different situation entirely.

PS; the Cloggies fully deserved to win last night.

@ msg 14, Newscoop: Rev, my points are: 1 : Bad enough if you are 'diagnosed' Hep C positive (it happens and got a lot of bad publicity for the State Hospital, the doctors, nurses and what have you) but good that you can have a second and third result (in Turkey). The result of the test in Turkey was supposed to be known in about fourteen days. If the first test had a wrong result, we should know that. If not, we should know that as well. Only fair in this case of strong public bad publicity for TRNC health care. 2 : I read about circa 20 more cases of Hep C positive people in one day (if I'm not mistaken) and I found and find that hard to believe.

What I'm saying is that the State Hospital in Nicosia must not be blamed (if necessary) before we know the facts. And we don't know the facts yet. Cyprus Today fails in informing the readers with a follow up - after a heavy start.

I'm not saying that I admire the law behind the blood test for 60- people, let that be clear.

But we do know that in the Positive HIV case, both private Lab in NC and Turkey came back NEGATIVE, yet the state hospitals (Girne and Lefkosa) came up with Positive results. So, who should be blamed ???

▶ Sorry, not in "the" Positive HIV case. You are talking about the first one that became publicly known (a lady). There's another case that got an equal amount of bad publicity.

Just back from a regular, complicated check-up in Nicosia State Hospital. Staff and heart surgeon friendly as always. Costs: none. Free.

We discussed the kind of complaints as I have read them on this board. Answer: any patient, whether local or expat, has the right to DEMAND the use of new needles and any reasonable precaution when treated. My heart surgeon promised to check with his colleagues how things are done during the dreaded 60- blood test. I also asked him to check how many expats have complained about medical circumstances during the 60- blood test.

But they don't complain because they know how vindictive the administration can be here and they worry that things could become difficult for them. Patients shouldn't have to demand new needles and reasonable precautions, that should be the norm.

Glad your check-up went well.

@ msg 19, teatime: Expats in TRNC have no problem to complain at the Lemar tills if they are not given their 5 Koruş change. And in a hospital they are struck by fright...?!

Double post again today. My iPad must love my texts... Sorry.

@ teatime: thank you for your interest in my check-up! My pacemaker (German made* and skillfully implanted in Nicosia State Hospital) is doing a great job. Still 5 to 7 years before recharging the battery!

* The 2-3 win over England was great, but the 2-1 loss of Germany against the French team made it the perfect football night... ).

Sorry, I had to write it....

RE Barking; mess 9 then DC mess 12

As per usual nothing is straightforward here, we should know more in the next few days.

Then (hopefully) everything will be clarified.

▶ Cheap, Rev. I did not and do not vilify anyone. I asked the questions where it SHOULD be done - in the State Hospital and not on a board with rumour mongers, loose cannons and hearsay-heroes.

However, it's not my problem, so I leave it at that. Good luck with your 60- test and problem. Happy moaning.

▶ Irrelevant question. Or are you suggesting people should only start or join a thread if they have or are part of "a problem"..?! You must be kidding.

The problem is that DutchCrusader will grasp at any excuse to start a thread.

Take no notice, it is just attention seeking.
