The saddest thing is that he felt that he had no adequate support from any of the organisations that should have been helping him.

Msg.9 relates to stories that I also heard. In this morning's Radio 4 discussion he was also described as someone who found it difficult to have to take instruction from various people as to how he should go about things - that is, in his then sate of blindness. Basically his case is yet another example of support services not really being able to cope with distinct needs as opposed to the general needs of those they are supposed to help. None of us can ever imagine what the man was going through and I find it a totally tragic outcome. May he rest in peace now.

I saw him being interviewed after he came out of hospital, he came across as such a quiet, unassuming, family man who was so grateful for the love of his family which he said was worth more than anything including his health.....with that taken away, why on earth would he want to carry on, no sight, no wife, so, so sad............

Very well put message 10. Reading this story in the papers this morning made me really upset, especially when you see a picture of his face covered in pellets - God bless him. How must his family be feeling at this moment - his wife especially - and who are we to judge.

Very, very sad. As message 12 points out - how could anyone know what was going through the poor man's mind. RIP
