Hi

May be someone can help,

I have a milk sensitivity that causes me sleeping problems.

The problem is eased a lot if I use sterilised milk.

I use Soya milk if sterilised is not available, but not keen on it.

We have a place in Catalkoy and travel to the south for sterilised milk.

Does anyone know if sterilised milk is available in North Cyprus?

Thanks

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

My sensitivity to milk did not show itself till later in life, after I had moved from the

North of England to the South.

I know many people do not like sterilised milk; I have always loved the taste. (If it is not too old) then the taste is bad. People think it lasts forever, it does not

I worked on a farm when I was younger and have drank many gallons of milk before I

reached my fifty’s and moved south.

I drank gallons of unpasteurised milk, just ran it through the chiller first.

Full cream, absolutely wonderful. Have never drunk milk on its own since!

How about goat's milk?

Think you might get that here. My sister in law is allergic to cow's milk but is fine on goat's milk. It is nicer than Soya, Oh, how I hate that stuff!

If you check this link out you will find that UHT is treated at higher temperatures than 'Sterilised' milk and hence it should be fine. i.e. It's should be more sterile than sterilised milk.

UHT which I used to abhor tastes a lot better these days...

Groucho

Thanks for the advice on U H T milk.

Tried it. It does not work for me. I will have to keep going south.

According to the information published on Groucho’s link; “There is no legally defined process for sterilising milk but, commonly, filled bottles are carried on a conveyor belt through a steam chamber where they are heated to a temperature of between 110-130ºC for approximately 10-30 minutes.”

So why not use a Pressure cooker, one that has an integral pressure/Temperature gauge and DIY? If you are THAT sensitive to the different qualities of whole milk heat treatment processes you can experiment and find one that suits you best, and as previously advised you can also try different milks, it would also be far more cost effective than travelling over the border to replenish stocks.

According to the great Mike (Rochdale Cowboy) Harding, steri doesn't curdle when hit by lightning!

Steri milk was very popular in the Midlands and was produced in various sites around the UK. It start to disappear when UHT treatment of milk was introduced in the early 80's.

You will have no chance of finding it these days, the taste was a by- product of the natural suger in the milk being cooked over a period of time at a high temperture., in the UHT process the milk is held at a very high temperture for a very short period of time.
